Browns down to last resort at QB?

Last resort: The Browns lost in embarrassing fashion at home to the Jaguars in Week 13. And while Brandon Weeden made some costly errors, he wasn’t really the main reason they lost this time. Josh Gordon gave Weeden a big assist in his big day, but now Weeden is under concussion protocol, which means it’s very possible the team will start newly acquired QB Alex Tanney, who is better known for his entertaining trick shot mastery than any NFL success. Tanney is the only healthy QB on Cleveland’s roster right now, so if you happen to have any experience playing QB and aren’t predisposed this Sunday. you might want to send your résumé down to the folks in Berea, OH. Anyhow, […]

Campbell gets the nod, A.D. wearing down?

Browns make QB change: I called this one a couple of days ago. Rob Chudzinski has apparently had enough of Brandon Weeden and decided to go with Jason Campbell at QB this week (and maybe even for the rest of the season). This has the potential to get very ugly since Campbell didn’t look much different than Weeden during his mop-up stint against the Ravens earlier this year. But with a full week of reps with the first-team offense? Hey, if Case Keenum can post a more than respectable outing, surely an eight-year veteran can at least match that. Campbell might get a couple TDs if Josh Gordon can take off and make something happen on his own. Spot-starting Campbell […]

Cutler among injury-marred Week 7 victims

Cutler among those injured in Week 7: What a rough week for a number of fantasy staples, if not superstars. Sam Bradford and Reggie Wayne both had torn ACLs. Brian Cushing had disgusting and unimaginable injuries to his knee. Jermichael Finley suffered a concussion and was in ICU through most of Monday. Doug Martin may or may not be out for the year depending on whether you believe Greg Schiano. And as long as we’re at it, let’s just add Jay Cutler to the list. Bears head coach Marc Trestman told reporterson  Monday that Cutler will miss “a minimum” of four weeks with a torn groin muscle and will be “week to week” after that point. Trestman said Cutler told him he […]

Reason for concern about RGIII?

RGIII not playing confidently: The script has gone similarly for the Redskins in their first two games of the year — fall behind big early on, then spend the second half playing catch-up against prevent defenses. RGIII has looked great going against them and amassing garbage points in the process. But there are some reports which indicate the coaching staff may be beginning to worry about their franchise QB’s early inability to produce when games are still undecided. RGIII’s sketchy play is probably the result of two factors: 1. RGIII is still getting up to game speed from having had zero preseason time on the field, and… 2.  Players who suffer severe injuries usually are a little bit hesitant to […]
