Getting to know the men behind the masks

With all the money, fame and attention bestowed upon NFL players it is easy to forget that even at the Pro Bowl — where all-stars are recognized for extraordinary performance on the field — off of the field they are still a group of ordinary young men. They are sons, brothers, husbands and fathers, who laugh at and worry about the same things as the rest of us. In the short period of time since the players arrived in Hawaii on Tuesday afternoon there have been constant reminders of that for those of us working closely with them. In my last NFL.com blog, I mentioned that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who has been selected to his 12th Pro Bowl […]

Fantasy Post Mortem: Airing of Grievances

If you fine folks have followed along, you know I received a Festivus miracle last week when the Tennessee Titans defense scored 18 points (thank you, Mark Sanchez) to secure the win against Matt “Money” Smith. I ultimately fell short in that league (more on those circumstances in a moment). I went 2-2 on Championship Weekend, as I again took out “Money” in our NFL.com Experts League. So I’m stuck in kind of limbo, fantasy purgatory similar to the finale of “Lost.” But two championships is pretty cool. And to fight off my NFL Fantasy Live peers for the second time in three seasons is pretty cool, too. Moving on, it should be noted so many fantasy football championships were […]

Fantasy Post Mortem: This is why you start Calvin Johnson

You’ve heard this before, but this is why you always play your studs. Calvin Johnson has led the world this season in being tackled at the 1-yard line. No, seriously. Elias passed along this note before the start of NFL Fantasy Live on Sunday which said Megatron had been tackled at the 1-yard line after four of his catches. And each time, the Lions ran the ball in each time, and did not go to Johnson.

What did you see: Redskins-Giants

Eric Davis analyzes the 77-yard touchdown score that gave the Giants the win.

NFL Fantasy Football Post Mortem: Rodgers is king again

Many fantasy enthusiasts likely feel a lot like Felix Baumgartner this morning after some players (and let’s put this mildly) didn’t come through on Sunday. Though, some old standbys finally showed themselves. Let’s get into it.

Giants WR Victor Cruz needs to shrug off salsa dancing imitators…

The Giants and the 49ers play this week, another installment of what has historically been a great rivalry. In my weekly ranking of the games, I put this showdown as No. 2. The storylines, literally, are endless. But one thing that I take issue with revolves around Giants star WR Victor Cruz and his salsa-dancing ways. See, 49ers DB Carlos Rogers had said he likes Cruz’s signature dance, but that he would imitate it after a big play. And Cruz responded that he wouldn’t like that one bit. He got pretty fired up. Later, when Rogers found out that Cruz’s dance is an homage to his late grandmother, he backed off. That’s cool.  I love how Cruz honors the woman who […]
