Representatives from 20 NFL teams — including New York Jets general manager John Idzik, two members of the Green Bay Packers, and tight end coaches from the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants — were present for Texas Tech’s pro day on Friday. A total of 13 Red Raiders players worked out outdoors on AstroTurf, which was kind of matted down and was not a good surface. But the prospects had to work outdoors because Texas Tech’s indoor facility is being renovated. Representatives from 16 NFL teams gathered at the pro day held March 6 at Texas Tech, where 12 Red Raiders participated in a workout that was held indoors on AstroTurf.

It happens over and over again. A player toes up to the line at the 40-yard dash, sets his hand down, explodes out of his stance and then pulls up lame after a few steps with a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, that happened again at Texas Tech’s pro day on Friday. CB Jamar Wall tweaked his hamstring.

A moment of sadness overshadowed Texas Tech’s pro day. OT Rylan Reed started out the workout exceptionally well, measuring in at 6-foot-5 ½, 309 pounds. He then had 41 bench press reps — a tally that would have put him No. 1 among all athletes at the NFL Scouting Combine last month.

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports that Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree, who was not going to work out here, will be unlikely to work out as his Pro Day, either.
