Representatives from 22 NFL teams — including Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight ends coach Jon Embree — were on hand Monday for Bowling Green’s pro day, where 14 players worked out. There were two athletes who had notable workouts: Alex Bayer, TE (6-foot-3 7/8, 257 pounds) — Bayer ran the 40-yard dash in 4.77 and 4.78 seconds. He had a 31 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-3 broad jump. He ran the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.42 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.26 seconds. Bayer did 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Bayer — who has 9 3/4-inch hands — caught 37 passes for 593 yards and four touchdowns for the Falcons in 2013. He finished his […]

Now that Lovie Smith has taken over as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, all signs point to Jeff Tedford taking the reigns as the team’s offensive coordinator. This will be Tedford’s his first job in the National Football League, but his name carries some weight with NFL front offices. Or at least it did at one time. During a lengthy college coaching tenure that included stops as the OC at Fresno State and Oregon as well as the head coach at California, he was known as a man who could develop quarterbacks. In fact, he has mentored six QBs who were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. It’s a rather impressive feat, even if the names […]

In today’s Three and Out: Michael Crabtree is expected back for the 49ers; Darren McFadden could see some time on Thanksgiving for the Raiders.

Tiquan Underwood torched the Detroit Lions secondary for 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, those points torched the waiver wire and not any (or at least, many) starting lineups.

Bobby Rainey has one career start, and one KABOOM! award. Both came in Week 11. Read on for more about his big day.

In today’s Three and Out: Vincent Jackson could see more WR targets this week; Could you say the same for C.J. Spiller? Don’t count on it.

In today’s Three and Out: Mike James is hurting; Terrelle Pryor is hurting worse than first thought … and is Ray Rice hurting?

Doug Martin has been placed on injured reserve, placing a disappointing cap on a frustrating fantasy season.

As if the 0-6 Buccaneers needed any more bad news, they have just received some of the worst kind on Monday morning. RB Doug Martin reportedly has a torn labrum and could miss the rest of the 2013 season, although Bucs coach Greg Schiano said it may not be that bad. Schiano said it would be a “stretch” for Martin to play Week 8, although I have a hard time believing we’ll see Martin on the field again this year. It’s not that he was such a productive force for the Bucs in 2013. The problem is his presence on the field at least kept defenses somewhat honest. Martin was a disappointment from a fantasy perspective — he rushed for […]

Buccaneers release QB Josh Freeman: We’ve officially entered the Mike Glennon show. The Bucs tried to trade Josh Freeman, but no one was interested, so they let him go. He’ll probably catch on with another team eventually, but his fall from grace hasn’t been very enjoyable to watch. Glennon has no fantasy value until he figures out how to run this offense efficiently. Doug Martin is also going to struggle as the Bucs try to develop a passing game. If you somehow owned or started Freeman on your team, you have some QB shopping to do. Stat. Spiller a game-time decision: Those of you who own C.J. Spiller are in a bit of a bind. He’s a game-time decision against […]

In today’s Three and Out: A swap of former first-round picks could lead to big fantasy opportunities for both … if they can take advantage.
