This is my third training camp this year (New Orleans and Minnesota) and though I’m just getting things started, the tempo and gusto of the Rams practice I just witnessed is pretty intense.
One of the questions facing the Giants during training camp — as well as the rest of the season — is how they’ll replace former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Several of the Giants believe they may have even more of an attacking defense this season.
The innovative defensive coach’s legacy will live on through his highly effective system and the many young coaches to whom he taught it.
The Philadelphia Eagles announced the promotion of interim defensive coordinator Sean McDermott to the permanent role today. Longtime coordinator Jim Johnson, one of the best in the business, is fighting cancer, and we wish him all the best.

St. Louis’ Steve Spagnuolo didn’t offer much news on the Rams’ roster or free agency plans Friday as one of the six first-year coaches addressing the media.
The Rams introduced Steve Spagnuolo as their new head coach on Monday, signaling the start of a new era in St. Louis. Spagnuolo, a defensive mastermind who learned under Eagles coordinator Jim Johnson for eight seasons, was credited as a major contributor in the New York Giants’ improbable win over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
The New York Giants have a history of turning their defensive coordinators into top head coaches. Just go back over the years.
