A Minnesota judge issued a 44-page ruling Thursday on the case involving the suspensions of Vikings DTs Pat and Kevin Williams but ultimately didn’t decide whether or not their suspensions can be upheld.

There was a memo distributed to all NFL clubs and players Monday from the league, making it clear that, in the wake of the recent “StarCaps” cases, the enforcement policies for the league’s drug-testing program have not changed. It’s worth noting that commissioner Roger Goodell asked DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFLPA, to join him in issuing the memo, as a sign of support.

The NFL has yet to make an announcement regarding the ability of Saints ends Will Smith and Charles Grant to play next week, but for now the team is proceeding as if they can.

Several notable NFL players facing possible suspensions from the Starcaps case still are awaiting word from the courts and the league as to their status for Week 1.

For the greater good, it’s time for Kevin Williams and Pat Williams to end their bid to avoid four-game suspensions from the NFL.

One of the most baffling aspects of this case is that the suspended players’ defense has been that StarCaps was mislabeled and they were unaware that the supplement in question violated the NFL policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.
