QB Simms among 20 players released by Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released 20 players to reach the NFL-mandated limit of 53 players.

Johnson, Anderson, O’Neal among Bengals vets cut

The Cincinnati Bengals terminated the contracts of five veterans not subject to waivers, releasing them to free agency Saturday: OT Willie Anderson; RB Rudi Johnson; TE Nate Lawrie; LB Jim Maxwell; CB Deltha O’Neal.

Panthers announce cuts

The Carolina Panthers released 22 players Saturday to reach the mandatory 53-man player limit for the regular season. Included in the cuts are veteran guard Milford Brown, who started 15 games for St. Louis in 2007 and safety Terrence Holt who started 16 games for the Cardinals last year. The list of veterans cut are DB Ricardo Colclough, G Toniu Fonoti, S Terrence Holt, WR Samie Parker, WR Travis Taylor, and RB Labrandon Toefield. Raiders cut Archuleta

Adam Archuleta’s switch to outside linebacker was short lived as he was cut by the Raiders on Saturday. The Raiders were Archuleta’s fourth team. St. Louis selected Archuleta in the first-round of the 2001 draft. He joined the Redskins in 2006, and was traded to the Bears in 2007, reuniting with former St. Louis defensive coordinator Lovie Smith.

Seahawks waive 16 players, place Obomanu on IR

The Seattle Seahawks placed two players on injured reserve, terminated two veteran contracts and waived 16 others Saturday to reach the 53-player roster limit.

Dolphins release 17 players

The Miami Dolphins Saturday made the following 17 roster moves in order to get down to the NFL’s mandatory 53-player roster limit.

Bears waive 20 players

The Chicago Bears waived 20 players Saturday in order to reduce the roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players.

Packers release RBs Morency, Herron

The Green Bay Packers released 19 players Saturday including running backs Vernand Morency and Noah Herron.

Broncos cut four receivers

The Broncos cut receiver Glenn Martinez, along with Marquay McDainel and Clifford Russell. Veteran Keary Colbert, who signed with the Broncos during the offseason, had been locked in a battle for a final roster spot. Colbert spent his previous four seasons with the Panthers.

Lions put RBs Calhoun, Cason on injured list

The Detroit Lions announced Saturday that they have placed RB Brian Calhoun and RB Aveion Cason on the Reserved/Injured list and released 20 players to trim their roster down to the NFL-mandated 53-man limit prior to the 6 p.m. ET league deadline.

DB Bryant, QB Gutierrez among 18 waived by Pats

Defensive back Fernando Bryant and quarterback Matt Gutierrez were among the 18 players released by the New England Patriots Saturday. Bryant’s release, along with that of DB Jason Webster on Aug. 26 removes two veteran players with starting experience brought in this offseason to help replace Asante Samuel.

Cowboys cut four receivers

The Cowboys cut receivers Danny Amendola, Mark Bradford, Mike Jefferson and Todd Lowber on Saturday. A mild surprise considering the numerous injuries the Cowboys have suffered at receiver.

WRs Williams, Ealy cut as Titans trim roster

The Tennessee Titans waived the following players Saturday to reach the 53-player roster limit: FB Jeremy Cain, CB Marquice Cole, DE Sean Conover, FB Casey Cramer, RB Omar Cuff, WR Biren Ealy, LB Jerrell Freeman, CB Tuff Harris, DT Antonio Johnson, S Tony Joiner, S Calvin Lowry, OL Enoka Lucas, QB Ingle Martin, C Jason Murphy, TE Jamie Petrowksi, T Isaac Snell, DT Eric Taylor, K John Vaughn, OL Fernando Velasco, CB Cary Williams, WR Edward Williams and WR Roydell Williams.

Colts release QBs Gray, Lorenzen, RB Keith

Backup quarterbacks Jared Lorenzen and Quinn Gray were among the players waived by the Colts Saturday. The move leaves the team with two active quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi.

Simms gets wish, released by Bucs

The happiest person of any player released in the NFL today is quarterback Chris Simms. The Buccaneers released Simms today.
