Representatives from 17 NFL teams were present for Tulane’s pro day on Friday, when 10 Green Wave players and around 20 others from area small schools worked out indoors on FieldTurf at the facility of the New Orleans Saints. Ryan Grant, WR (6-foot 1/2, 194 pounds) — Grant — who was at the NFL Scouting Combine — ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 and 4.50 seconds. Grant’s position skills are impressive; he’s a really good route runner and has very good hands. Grant is a likely third-day selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, probably in the lower rounds. Cairo Santos, K (5-8 1/2, 161) — Santos booted six kickoffs into the end zone, and then converted 8 of 8 field […]

Wide receiver John Brown drew representatives from seven NFL teams — including a wide receivers coach from the New Orleans Saints, and special teams coaches from the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts — to Pittsburg State’s pro day in Pittsburg, Kansas, on March 18. The workout was held outdoors and run on FieldTurf. The weather conditions featured 20-30 mile per hour wind gusts, 50-degree temperatures and sunshine. Brown (5-foot-10, 172 pounds) stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, which were impressive (he posted the second-fastest 40-yard dash time — 4.34 seconds — among wide receivers). Brown — who has 8 1/8-inch hands — did do eight lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press at Pittsburg State’s pro […]

Representatives from 20 NFL teams — including New York Jets general manager John Idzik, two members of the Green Bay Packers, and tight end coaches from the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants — were present for Texas Tech’s pro day on Friday. A total of 13 Red Raiders players worked out outdoors on AstroTurf, which was kind of matted down and was not a good surface. But the prospects had to work outdoors because Texas Tech’s indoor facility is being renovated. Jace Amaro, TE (6-foot-5 1/2, 266 pounds) — Amaro ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds against the wind and 4.68 with the wind. He had a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump and posted 24 reps of 225 […]

Representatives from all 32 NFL teams — including the head coaches of the Cincinnati Bengals (Marvin Lewis), Minnesota Vikings (Mike Zimmer) and New Orleans Saints (Sean Payton); general managers from the New York Giants (Jerry Reese), Vikings (Rick Spielman) and Saints (Mickey Loomis); as well as numerous coordinators and assistant/position coaches — were present at Alabama’s pro day on Wednesday. A total of eight players worked out indoors on FieldTurf. AJ McCarron, QB (6-foot-3 3/8, 222 pounds) — McCarron did an excellent job throwing the ball to receivers Kevin Norwood and Kenny Bell. There isn’t a consensus on McCarron, with some people really liking the two-time national title-winning quarterback and others not intrigued with the decorated collegiate passer. At Alabama’s […]

Allow me to pull back the curtain a little bit. When we do projections for the Monday show, if I need a guy to get me a certain number of points that night, I will project that. This, of course, explains why I had Jimmy Graham tabbed for 26.80 points against the Dolphins on Monday night. And to be honest, that number wasn’t so outlandish. It puts him in the Tony Gonzalez category for Week 4 and it was close to what Graham did on Monday.
