Looking for an unheralded player who could make a big impact for the Steelers on Super Bowl Sunday? Look no further than the receiver position.

Ravens WR Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh both wanted more balls this season, but both had huge drops in the team’s loss to the Steelers. Boldin dropped a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, and Houshmandzadeh dropped a game-preserving pass.
Even after some big-name acquisitions, the Ravens still need help at receiver and especially one who can stretch the field.

The Ravens have jumped out to a 14-point lead with a number of big plays, and the Steelers need to do the same thing here in the second half.

Without a doubt, Week 17 of the 2010 season brought us a lot to chew on from a statistical standpoint.

Did any of you imagine that Cardinals rookie QB John Skelton was going to have an impact in the fantasy playoffs? Or maybe the fairer question would be to ask if any of you had heard of Skelton prior to this week?

The weather could have a major effect on the first week of the fantasy football postseason.

The Lions will start Drew Stanton at quarterback vs. the Bears, and while the former Michigan State Spartan will not draw any interest in fantasy circles, he certainly could impact one of the best receivers, Calvin Johnson. Megatron continued to produce big numbers with QB Shaun Hill, but can you really trust him to do the same with Stanton?

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that QB Ben Roethlisberger played with a sprained foot in Sunday’s win over the Bills, and more tests will be needed.

Poor Chargers QB Philip Rivers, four touchdowns and nobody is going to bother to notice. At least not after Eagles QB Michael Vick set the bar so high. At least he’s in the mix for Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino‘s single-season passing record.

Pulling in a couple of fantasy thoughts from the Twitterverse:

No Monday night lead ever feels safe, even when you are up by 49 points (standard scoring), going against only Bengals WR Terrell Owens. It’s kind of like when Skylab was falling. Sure you were pretty confident that a piece was not going to come busting through the roof of your bedroom ceiling. Yet, you still pulled your Rams sleeping blanket over your covers for some extra padding just in case.

Welcome to the 2010 season, Mike Wallace. The lanky receiver, who was one of the top sleepers on NFL.com prior to the season, finally reward fantasy enthusiasts with a pair of first-half touchdowns.

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall was a surprise slide down the draft boards over the weekend. A development that was fashioned on rumors of Isaac Redman getting goal-line carries. And those fears became a confounded reality when coach Mike Tomlin announced that Redman was going to be the short-yardage back.

This is what I get for being so high on Steelers WR Mike Wallace. Second-year QB Dennis Dixon could end up starting for the Steelers in the wake of Byron Leftwich’s knee injury. Leftwich went to the hospital for an MRI.
