Lonnie Ballentine of Memphis has ability to make an NFL team

Representatives from 11 NFL teams were present at Memphis’ pro day on March 17, when 12 players worked out outdoors on FieldTurf. Memphis had one player who participated at the NFL Scouting Combine, punter Tom Hornsey. Hornsey (6-foot-3 1/2, 218 pounds) only participated in punting drills at the pro day. Lonnie Ballentine, FS (6-3, 219) — Ballentine ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 and 4.45 seconds. He had a 38-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-5 broad jump. He had a short shuttle time of 4.47 seconds and did the three-cone drill in 7.18 seconds. Ballentine, who has 33-inch arms, performed 18 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Representatives from 10 NFL teams gathered at Memphis’ pro day on March 18, where nine players worked out outdoors on natural grass in 40-degree temperatures and in a light rain.

Dontari Poe stands by his impressive combine numbers

Dontari Poe put on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine, most notably leading all participants in the bench press, doing 44 reps of 225 pounds.

So, it came as no surprise when the defensive tackle prospect opted to stand on his eye-popping combine performances when Memphis held its pro day on March 22.

Calhoun catches on at Memphis’ pro day

Get to know the name Duke Calhoun. The wide receiver from Memphis is generating a buzz. Former Cowboys quarterback Jerry Rhome called about a month ago to give me a heads up on Calhoun’s ability, and he worked out very well at Memphis’ pro day on Friday.
