The San Francisco 49ers host the Chicago Bears in a highly anticipated matchup among two of the league’s best teams. Both teams are coming off of disappointing performances in their prior outing; San Francisco is coming off of a frustrating tie against St. Louis, and Chicago lost a sloppy 13-6 slugfest against Houston. With Alex Smith out, it becomes especially important that the 49ers gets their ground game on track to make things easier on second-year QB Colin Kaepernick as he makes his first NFL start. Behind Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter, the 49ers lead the NFL averaging 170.2 rushing yards per game on a staggering 5.61 yards per carry, and look to exploit a Bears defense that has had […]

Bears RB Matt Forte is a Louisiana native, a Tulane graduate. He grew up in nearby Slidell, La., and still has his entire family down there. So, of course, he is paying close attention to oncoming Hurricane Isaac and the damage it could cause to New Orleans. After practice today, I picked his brain on how he’s preparing for the season, and you’ll see some of that on NFL.com next week. Yeah, he’s a little competitive. At the end, though, we talked about the storm. Forte is confident his family will be safe. “I mean, we’ve been living there almost 30 years, so there’s been a lot of hurricanes over those years,” Forte told me. “It’s not like something new […]

Earlier today, before he teed off, Bears kicker Robbie Gould talked about his team’s offseason. That included picking up new weapons like Brandon Marshall and the fact that RB Matt Forte signed an extension. Speaking while wearing crazy blue pants (left), Gould was pumped. “That’s great,” Gould said of Forte’s deal. “It’s about time.“ Yup. I think many would agree. But Gould (a really good golfer) said he wasn’t worried that a contract for Forte would get done. “I don’t think anyone was nervous,” Gould said. “A guy like Matt who has played very well, who has always been in shape, done the right things, guys like that should be rewarded. Not saying other guys who play well shouldn’t be rewarded […]

Happy Tuesday, everybody. I have to say, staying up late to watch John Cena get “potato’d” was worth. Oh, and the season finale of “Justified” is tonight. It’s going to be a great day. But how about some fantasy news?
