Cassel closer to starting?: Lezlie Frazier recently said he hopes Christian Ponder plays on Sunday against the Steelers, but I don’t know how broken up the coaching staff would be if they were forced to go with Matt Cassel. Ponder has more INTs (5) this year than TD passes (2), and he has yet to crack 240 passing yards in a game. In other words, he’s been operating at about a C- level all year long. If Ponder plays well in London, he’ll be given a moratorium. If not, Cassel will likely start after the bye. After he gained gained 98 rush yards on 16 carries against San Diego last week, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson now has rushed for 1,650 yards in 15 career games in the month of September. Peterson averages 110.0 rush yards per game in the month, which is the second-highest average in September in NFL history (minimum 10 games), behind only Hall of Famer Jim Brown. And when you consider the other names on this list, September success is impressive indeed.
