When Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick jogged off the field in Thursday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, shaking his hand after hitting it on teammate Jason Kelce‘s helmet, a collective groan echoed from Eagles Nation.
NFL.com and NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones later reported that X-rays taken on Vick’s thumb were negative. The question this week on radio shows and in the blogosphere will be if Vick should sit out next Monday’s matchup with the New England Patriots and how much he should play the rest of the preseason.

It’s an odd (and occasionally unpleasant) sight to see linemen legging out 40-yard dashes, and most NFL talent evaluators feel the same way. While a 40 time offers a window into a prospect’s athleticism, it really has no bearing on his overall evaluation.
