While the Lions have launched an extensive head-coaching search, they also have quietly explored hiring another front-office man to match with chief operating officer Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew.

James “Shack” Harris, the Jaguars’ longtime vice president/player personnel, resigned effective at the end of the regular season. Replacing Harris will be Gene Smith, currently the Jaguars’ vice president/player personnel.
