Howard Jones of Shepherd visits with Dallas Cowboys

Shepherd hasn’t had a player selected in the NFL draft since 1979 (running back Wayne Wilson), but defensive end Howard Jones could change that. Jones (6-foot-2 3/8, 234 pounds) was at the NFL Scouting Combine and stood on his numbers from the event (he was a top performer in his position group in the vertical jump and among the top performers at his position in the 40-yard dash, broad jump and three-cone drill). Jones worked out at linebacker during the pro day on April 9, which was held on a sunny, 55-degree day and held outdoors and run on FieldTurf. Charles Sims of West Virginia might surprise people in NFL

There were 24 NFL teams represented at West Virginia’s pro day on Friday, where 15 Mountaineers players and one player from Shepherd worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Charles Sims, RB (6-foot 1/8, 214 pounds) — Sims — who was at the NFL Scouting Combine and stood on his numbers from that event — only did position drills at the pro day. Sims played his senior season at West Virginia after finishing up his degree at the University of Houston. He can really catch the ball well, which is what teams are looking for out of a running back, and does so despite having small hands (8 1/4 inches).
