Former Saints coach Jim Haslett has signed a three-year contract to become the Redskins’ defensive coordinator, according to league sources.

Jerry Gray, the Redskins’ secondary coach and someone who interviewed for the head-coaching job earlier this season, is formally interviewing for the defensive coordinator position Tuesday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache came to Dan Snyder‘s defense Thursday and said criticism of the struggling team’s owner isn’t warranted. Should coach Jim Zorn be replaced during the season, the Redskins seem to have two internal candidates as possible interim replacements.

Redskins starting QB Jason Campbell had a troublesome outing against the Steelers, but the defense has looked great.
