Cassel closer to starting?: Lezlie Frazier recently said he hopes Christian Ponder plays on Sunday against the Steelers, but I don’t know how broken up the coaching staff would be if they were forced to go with Matt Cassel. Ponder has more INTs (5) this year than TD passes (2), and he has yet to crack 240 passing yards in a game. In other words, he’s been operating at about a C- level all year long. T.J. Yates played admirably as the Texans’ starting QB late last season, but coach Gary Kubiak said the second-year pro still must battle Matt Leinart to be Matt Schaub‘s backup in 2012.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak assured fantasy enthusiasts when he said that WR Dre Johnson was going to miss “some time.” And by assuring us, I mean he could not have been more vague. Oh well, hopefully Dre will start tweeting out MRI photos like his teammate Arian Foster did.

Arian Foster is one step closer to facing the Dolphins on Sunday. Texans coach Gary Kubiak told reporters that Foster — who has become a hit with the nation’s youth — looked “much better” in Thursday’s practice.

Congratulations to Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward – your newest “Dancing With the Stars” champion. Unbelievably, that makes not one but two players who can boast a DWTS trophy and a Super Bowl MVP trophy on their mantel.

Now that Texans coach Gary Kubiak has agreed to be in studio Tuesday for “NFL Total Access” on NFL Network, he must be thrilled about star WR Andre Johnson‘s recent comments about trying to recruit free-agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha.
