Cowboys add another play-caller to the mix

Cowboys hire Linehan to call plays: Never being a group to shy away from out-of-the-box ideas, the Dallas Cowboys have hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan to call plays. But there’s a twist — the Cowboys are also retaining Bill Callahan to be the team’s offensive coordinator. Linehan spent the past five seasons leading the Lions’ offense and turned them into a top 10 outfit over the past three campaigns. While life in Detroit has centered on the passing game, Linehan has had some success running the football in the past. In 2002-03, his Minnesota Vikings were in the top five in rushing yards. The biggest issue could be a divergence of opinion among the team’s braintrust in how to operate […]

Ponder’s time as starter winding down?

Cassel closer to starting?: Lezlie Frazier recently said he hopes Christian Ponder plays on Sunday against the Steelers, but I don’t know how broken up the coaching staff would be if they were forced to go with Matt Cassel. Ponder has more INTs (5) this year than TD passes (2), and he has yet to crack 240 passing yards in a game. In other words, he’s been operating at about a C- level all year long.  If Ponder plays well in London, he’ll be given a moratorium. If not, Cassel will likely start after the bye. USO tour ends with troops on Fourth of July

What better way to conclude the NFL Coaches USO Tour than by spending the Fourth of July with the troops. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, Texans coach Gary Kubiak, former NFL coach and current NFL Network analyst Jim Mora Jr. and former Saints and Colts coach Jim Mora Sr. had an opportunity to do just that Monday in Iraq.
