There were 32 teams represented at Florida State Pro Day on March 19. They ran outdoors and the field was damp due to prior rain. It was about 70 degrees. Tank Carradine DL (6-4 3/8, 275 pounds) — He recorded 32 bench presses, but will do another workout April 4 at Woodward High School in Cincinnati. Everett Dawkins DL (6-2 ¼, 291 pounds) — He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.00 and 5.02 seconds. He kept the rest of the combine results. Dawkins did well in positional workouts. Mike Mayock was on hand to witness Florida State’s pro day, where quarterback EJ Manuel — a player rated as the No. 2 QB in the draft by Mayock — was one of the key prospects working out.

No one can understand exactly what Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle has gone through the past couple years. There is one person, however, that can relate somewhat to Rolle’s experience: Former Rams quarterback Pat Haden.

A few prominent football players have been Rhodes Scholars in the past, including former USC star quarterback Pat Haden and 1958 Heisman Trophy winner Peter M. Dawkins, and now comes the latest in that tradition.

Let me first give the disclaimer that I am a Florida State Seminole, as is Leon Washington. That said, Washington has earned a new contract, and it’s imperative that the Jets get a deal done because their 2009 season will ride on the field position that the Pro Bowl returner provides.

Florida State’s pro day was held outdoors Monday on FieldTurf in Tallahassee, Fla., and was attended by 26 NFL teams. Linebacker coaches from the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles were in attendance, among others.
