It’s been widely assumed inside the Browns organization that Brady Quinn would take over for Derek Anderson as the starting quarterback following the bye week, but coach Eric Mangini has not informed players or many other staff members of his final decision, which will be announced Wednesday.

Midway through the season, it’s time to see what we’ve learned. I took a look at Ted Thompson, Eric Mangini, Vince Young, Roy Williams (of the Cowboys), Tom Coughlin and, last but not least, Drew Brees, on Saturday’s NFL Total Access on NFL Network.

When it comes to organizational dysfunction, the Cleveland Browns are now right there with the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins. This week’s events in Cleveland have thrust the team into a vortex of bizarre moves.

No team celebrates its past more than the Raiders. So it should come as no surprise that Raiders managing general partner Al Davis told Santa Rosa Press Democrat reporter Phil Barber that he loved seeing those throwback uniforms on Monday night.

I have a strange feeling that Cleveland coach Eric Mangini is a huge fan of the movie “Usual Suspects” (I am, by the way; a top-fiver). You know the bad guy is the cunning Keyser Söze but you don’t know who the bad guy actually is until the final moment.

Last week I made the statement on NFL Total Access that Eric Mangini needed to pick a QB and tell a little white lie. Needless to say, Mangini is marching to his own drum.

Now that Brett Favre and Mike Vick are gainfully employed, I thought I’d reflect back on what has been another wild NFL offseason (and I’m including the events of training camp as part of the “offseason,” cause, heck, we’re not in the regular season yet).

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora was stationed in Berea, Ohio, at Browns training camp. La Canfora says that while Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson are handling the pressure-packed quarterback competition well, he believes Anderson will be the one roaming the sidelines without a helmet while holding a clipboard when the Browns open their season Sept. 13.
