Dontari Poe put on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine, most notably leading all participants in the bench press, doing 44 reps of 225 pounds.

So, it came as no surprise when the defensive tackle prospect opted to stand on his eye-popping combine performances when Memphis held its pro day on March 22.

For the chorus of fans still impressed by defensive tackle Dontari Poe‘s emphatic performance at February’s NFL Scouting Combine, NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock has a little reality check.

The Chiefs might be hanging just outside of the top 10 in this year’s draft, but, unlike most teams atop the board, they are only a few pieces away from competing within their division.

Hands down, Dontari Poe is the first defensive lineman who jumps out at me after watching Monday’s workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine.

This year’s combine bench-press leader is Memphis’ Dontari Poe, who put up 44 reps, eight more than the next best defensive lineman and edging the previous leader, Michigan center David Molk, by three.
