Lions WR Calvin Johnson is active for the Lions who take on the host Seahawks.

The Lions have five quarterbacks, a position that has been in a constant state of flux for first-year coach Jim Schwartz over the last week. Beyond rookie Matthew Stafford, who will start Thursday’s preseason finale against the Bills, not much is clear right now for the Lions.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has a host of issues facing the Lions, one of the most pressing being the quarterback position. More specifically, what he is going to do about pending free agents Jon Kitna and Daunte Culpepper.

OK, with Detroit now down 28-3 early in the second quarter — 28-to-3! — a few things can be confirmed.

But Daunte Culpepper has been pulled against the Buccaneers in favor of Drew Stanton. Culpepper, who is the third quarterback to get yanked today, had thrown for 88 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the game.

The Lions scored the first 17 points against Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have scored the last 21.

It’s bad enough that Daunte Culpepper has to try to rally winless Detroit to a victory. But Sunday’s matchup versus the Carolina Panthers presents even more uncomfortable memories.

After giving us New England’s run at history last year, the NFL is giving us Detroit’s walk of shame this year. Heading into Sunday’s game against Washington, the Lions are 0-6. They now are at the point where it is worth scanning their schedule to see where, if anywhere, that first elusive “W” will come. Or if it will come.
