‘Pugs’ Pughsley of Akron could be project-type player in NFL

There were four NFL teams represented at Akron’s pro day on March 21, whn an offensive line prospect who could be a project-type player in the NFL was among the athletes who worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Jarrod “Pugs” Pughsley, OL (6-foot-4 1/2, 308 pounds) — Pughsley ran the 40-yard dash in 5.29 and 5.32 seconds. He had a 30-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.69 seconds and the three-cone drill in 8.20 seconds. Pughsley, who has 33 1/2-inch arms, performed 34 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Akron has not had a player drafted since 2008, when defensive back Reggie Corner was a fourth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills.

UMass, Iowa St., Akron, Towson hold pro days

The University of Massachusetts held its annual pro day on March 26 outdoors on FieldTurf, with representatives from eight NFL teams in attendance to watch eight former Minutemen, as well as players from five area schools. Gil Brandt also has reports for Iowa State, Akron and Towson.
