Jets running back Thomas Jones set a club record by scoring a touchdown in eight consecutive games. He also set two other club records — most touchdowns in a season (15) — breaking a deadlock with Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, Art Powell and Emerson Boozer — and most rushing touchdowns in a season (13).

New England has declined to say whether quarterback Matt Cassel will start today after losing his father this week, but he will. A league source confirmed Cassel will be the Patriots’ starting quarterback today at Oakland against the Raiders.

Pierre Thomas just scored his second touchdown of the afternoon, this one a 5-yard run. He’s been a tremendous flex starter for fantasy leaguers this week.

Bad news for Lions running back Kevin Smith, who becomes a much risker fantasy option with the Williams Wall on the field. It also throws Deuce McAllister in the mix for carries in New Orleans, so RB Pierre Thomas isn’t as solid a flex starter. Thomas has seen far more work than McAllister in recent weeks, however, so don’t bench him for this reason alone.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — There already were arguments that the New York Giants were the best team in the NFL. With previously unbeaten Tennessee losing — to the Giants’ co-stadium tenants, the Jets — and the Giants knocking off host Arizona, 37-29, on Sunday, the arguments gained even more support.
Down offensive starters Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Plaxico Burress (hamstring), New York’s offense didn’t miss a step. Neither did its defense, which effectively limited wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin and steadily dialed up pressure on Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner.
It steadily enforced its will on the Cardinals in the same manner they’ve worn down all comers — except for Cleveland, of all teams.
