Jets RB Jones scores record-breaking touchdown

Jets running back Thomas Jones set a club record by scoring a touchdown in eight consecutive games. He also set two other club records — most touchdowns in a season (15) — breaking a deadlock with Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, Art Powell and Emerson Boozer — and most rushing touchdowns in a season (13).

Cassel expected to start

New England has declined to say whether quarterback Matt Cassel will start today after losing his father this week, but he will. A league source confirmed Cassel will be the Patriots’ starting quarterback today at Oakland against the Raiders.

Viva la France … Pierre scores again!

Pierre Thomas just scored his second touchdown of the afternoon, this one a 5-yard run. He’s been a tremendous flex starter for fantasy leaguers this week.

Hasselbeck, Jones doubtful for Seahawks

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and left guard Walter Jones are doubtful for Sunday’s game against New England. The Seahawks will start Seneca Wallace in his place.

Suspension ruling has fantasy implications

Bad news for Lions running back Kevin Smith, who becomes a much risker fantasy option with the Williams Wall on the field. It also throws Deuce McAllister in the mix for carries in New Orleans, so RB Pierre Thomas isn’t as solid a flex starter. Thomas has seen far more work than McAllister in recent weeks, however, so don’t bench him for this reason alone.

Wyche: Can Giants be beat?

GLENDALE, Ariz. — There already were arguments that the New York Giants were the best team in the NFL. With previously unbeaten Tennessee losing — to the Giants’ co-stadium tenants, the Jets — and the Giants knocking off host Arizona, 37-29, on Sunday, the arguments gained even more support.

Down offensive starters Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Plaxico Burress (hamstring), New York’s offense didn’t miss a step. Neither did its defense, which effectively limited wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin and steadily dialed up pressure on Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner.

It steadily enforced its will on the Cardinals in the same manner they’ve worn down all comers — except for Cleveland, of all teams.

L.J. to return in Week 11

Chiefs coach Herman Edwards announced that troubled RB Larry Johnson will return to action this week against the Saints. He’s missed the last four games as a result of a number of negative off-field incidents. While it will be nice to have him back in your fantasy lineup, Johnson shouldn’t be seen as a savior. The offense has found a new identity with QB Tyler Thigpen under center, averaging 23.3 points per game. The Chiefs have also been more competitive, losing their last three games by a combined eight points. Johnson will see his share of the workload, but Kansas City will continue to throw the football while Thigpen is hot. The veteran does have some nice matchups against the […]
