Bills coach Dick Jauron announced WR Terrell Owens’ sprained toe will keep him out of Saturday’s preseason game at Green Bay.
The biggest news of an eventful Tuesday was Brett Favre reporting to Vikings training camp and immediately signing a two-year contract. As always, our analysts and writers wasted no time in chiming in.
Moments ago, the Packers announced the signing of first-round pick NT B.J. Raji. Terms of Raji’s contract were not disclosed by the team.
Terrell Owens did not participate in a morning walkthrough with the Bills on Tuesday — it was an excused absence — and was not scheduled to practice during the team’s night session, either, according to a statment released during the afternoon by coach Dick Jauron.
The real pressure point of the first round is coming in the second quarter, with picks 8 through 12 all unsigned to this point. That span includes the player who has been absent from his camp the longest thus far — defensive end Aaron Maybin has missed the Bills’ first week of practice. It also includes a wide receiver who many believed would go in the top five (Michael Crabtree of the 49ers) and the first running back selected in the draft (Knowshon Moreno of the Broncos).
The Buffalo Bills have one of their two first-round draft picks under contract, with OL Eric Wood signing a five-year deal worth a maximum of nearly $13 million, according to a league source. The sides agreed to the financial parameters of the deal’s structure Tuesday night and finalized it Wednesday.
First-round draft pick Eric Wood, a center from Louisville, is expected to sign a contract with the Bills tonight or tomorrow, according to a league source. The Bills also are believed to be getting close to a deal with second-round pick Jairus Byrd, a cornerback from Oregon.
Picks in the top two rounds are agreeing to contracts with greater frequency now, but still a majority of the top picks unsigned.
