Rodgers in a race against time

Progress? On Thursday, Aaron Rodgers — still recovring from a busted collarbone — said he would “need to take the majority of the reps” in Friday’s practice if we expect to see him on the field against the Cowboys. He reportedly looked and felt better today than he did earlier in the week. Rodgers owners simply need to pay close attention to this situation throughout the weekend, but even if he does return, he isn’t on auto-start status. It’s going to take him at least a week to get back up to speed. Use your backup plan, unless it’s a God-awful one. Back to our guy: Jay Cutler has been named Chicago’s Week 15 starter. Josh McCown averaged over 350 […]

Stewart, Gronk go on season-ending I.R.

Torn apart: So last night, I’m sitting at home watching the Panthers take on the Saints. Jonathan Stewart takes a play near the sidelines and gets hit low as he goes out of bounds. I swear to you on my soul that my very first thought was “Oh, no … for a guy who has suffered a ridiculous amount of foot injuries, that hit looked like a dangerous one to take. I hope he’s OK.” Nope. Wrong. Stewart limped off the field, and it turns out he has a torn MCL in his right knee. I feel badly for Stewart owners who took a chance on him, but I wouldn’t trust this guy to order a pizza without picking up […]

Easy trivia: Guess which RB is injured yet again?

We’ve heard this before: Water is wet. The sky is blue. And Darren McFadden missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, this one supposedly having come against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving if head coach Dennis Allen is to believed. Oakland’s other RB Rashad Jennings actually did return to practice Wednesday after picking up a concussion on Thanksgiving. On one hand, you feel bad for McFadden since he seems to be cursed. But he’s been mostly useless for his owners throughout his career since he is incapable of staying on the field. Jennings is Oakland’s go-to guy for the rest of this season … and perhaps beyond. He’s got a nice matchup this week against a Jets defense that spends a […]

Browns down to last resort at QB?

Last resort: The Browns lost in embarrassing fashion at home to the Jaguars in Week 13. And while Brandon Weeden made some costly errors, he wasn’t really the main reason they lost this time. Josh Gordon gave Weeden a big assist in his big day, but now Weeden is under concussion protocol, which means it’s very possible the team will start newly acquired QB Alex Tanney, who is better known for his entertaining trick shot mastery than any NFL success. Tanney is the only healthy QB on Cleveland’s roster right now, so if you happen to have any experience playing QB and aren’t predisposed this Sunday. you might want to send your résumé down to the folks in Berea, OH. Anyhow, […]

Flacco not down with Wildcat, Browns get bad QB news

I’m a QB, damn it!: So, Joe Flacco is less than thrilled about lining up in the wildcat formation. He couldn’t even be bothered to block on one of the plays, which makes me wonder how long it’ll take before some angry defensive back absolutely levels Flacco the next time the Ravens deceide to run a play out of the wildcat. Anyhow, Flacco’s already low fantasy value will get even lower if Tyrod Taylor starts getting a handful of reps each week. Chances are you aren’t starting Flacco in your league anyway, but if you are, I’d love to know why. Weeden likely starting Week 13: Jason Campbell sustained a concussion in Cleveland’s Week 12 home loss to the Steelers, […]

Raiders, Vikings make Week 12 QB decisions

Stay put, Matt: When the Raiders said they weren’t committed to Terrelle Pryor, they weren’t kidding. Pryor has been dealing with knee issues, but he’s practicing again as of today … except it’s with the second unit. Matt McGloin has been named Oakland’s starter against Tennessee. The undrafted rookie ambushed the Texans by throwing three scores and no picks. I’ve said this before and will say it again: be extremely cautious about buying in on QBs who have great initial success (ie beginner’s luck). Take Case Keenum as one of many examples — another guy who hit the ground running, set off a fantasy waiver wire stampede, then tapered off as soon as defensive coordinators had some film they could […]

Texans stick with Keenum, Peterson ailing

Case not closed: So, the Texans didn’t need much time to declare Case Keenum will start in Week 12 against the Jaguars. “I’ve got total confidence in him,” said coach Gary Kubiak. Except most of his fantasy owners don’t anymore after the inexplicably poor performance against a Raiders secondary that doesn’t exactly terrify opposing quarterbacks. If you own Keenum, I’m sorry. I really don’t know what to tell you, other than the Jags defense presents a good opportunity for him to get back on track. Nonetheless, keep your other options as open as possible. I wouldn’t start Keenum this week unless I had absolutely zero alternatives. Have a seat, Jay: The Bears have already ruled out Jay Cutler (ankle, […]

Who’s dealing with injuries entering Week 11?

Sit Stevie: According to a report on the official Bills team site, coach Doug Marrone “(doesn’t) feel good” about Stevie Johnson’s chances of seeing the field in Week 11. Johnson picked up a groin injury last week against the Steelers, but he hasn’t been a consistent fantasy threat when he’s healthy. Stevie seems to have one good week every so often, then lets his owners down more often than not. If you had been banking on him starting this week, you may want to jump on the waiver wire and make other plans. Broken Law: Remember when going into the season, the consensus was BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Giovanni Bernard would split carries until a winner emerged? Bernard went on to […]

Golden Tate dishes on his love of fantasy football

How many NFL players are hard core fantasy players themselves? It’s hard to say for sure, but Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate is one of them. Tate was kind enough to stop in and join Michael Fabiano from NFL Fantasy Live to talk about a number of different topics. We have yet to see Percy Harvin play in a Seahawks uniform, and that could change in Week 11. Tate gives his thoughts on what kind of impact Harvin’s presence will make on the offense. Tate also sheds some light on how Russell Wilson helps the Seahawks offense get in sync before gameday. Finally, who else populates Golden Tate’s fantasy team? Are any other Seahawks on his roster? Where […]

A closer look at Week 11 waiver targets

Fantasy playoffs are right around the corner — can you believe it? Now may be the most critical time of the fantasy to make sure you’re maximizing the talent on your roster. The Fantasy Live crew takes a look at their picks for some of the top waiver wire pickups in Week 11. Michael Fabiano likes Andre Brown’s potential — a lot. Who wouldn’t after such a dominant performance against the Raiders? However, one major concern exists for Brown owners the rest of the season. What is it? Fabs also says he likes what Packers WR Jarrett Boykin can bring to the table, regardless of who the Packers have under center. But Jarrett Boykin’s fantasy value is higher in certain […]

Should you rush to claim Ingram?

Easy on Ingram: I’m taking Mark Ingram’s Week 10 performance with a giant grain of salt since the Cowboys defense seemingly took an early flight out of the Big Easy sometime in the middle of the second quarter (apparently, I was unaware it was official Cowboys team policy that Sean Lee is the only player on this unit permitted to make a tackle). But Ingram had 14 carries for a career-high 145 yards and added a touchdown in Sunday night’s 49-17 thrashing of Dallas. I think this is more likely to be a one-off performance since it was completely out of the blue. Not to mention, check out the run defenses awaiting the Saints over the next month: they host […]

Martin hoping to play, Harvin still out

Martin may play again? Bucs head coach Greg Schiano said Doug Martin will return to action this season only if doctors believe he can’t do further damage to his shoulder. Martin will eventually need surgery to repair the torn labrum he suffered in his shoulder, but he is hoping to play through the pain for the rest of this season and delay the surger until the offseason. However, I still think it’s unlikely Martin returns until 2014. The Bucs are still searching for their first win of the season, and not much can be gained by risking further injury to the centerpiece of their offense going forward. If you own Martin, don’t hesitate to dump him if a more productive […]

Reviewing Foles’ place in passing history

Foles joins elite company: So, check this out and tell me how many of you thought you’d be saying this about Nick Foles just 48 hours ago: he joined Hall-of-Famers Sid Luckman, George Blanda and Y. A. Tittle, very likely future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning, Joe Kapp and Adrian Burk as the seventh player in NFL history to throw seven TD passes in one game.  Know how many TD passes Foles had in his career before yesterday? Just 12 — far and away the lowest by any of those QBs prior to their respective seven-TD-pass games. And here’s what really irked me yesterday: Foles was the first of those seven QBs to throw all seven of his touchdown passes within the game’s […]

Lynch, White skipping practices

Lynch dealing with knee issue: Marshawn Lynch has reportedly been dealing with a knee issue and didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice. That might explain why he looked so pathetic against the Rams on Monday after rushing for 100 yards or more in his previous three straight versus St. Louis. The bad news for Lynch owners this week is the Bucs visit town, which means the Seahawks could very well limit his workload again since they won’t need a big effort from him to win. If you own Lynch, I’d seriously consider looking at your other options as you keep a close eye on his status through the weekend. MIN = MIA: It’s nothing short of amazing that the Vikings scored […]

Which QBs have the toughest remaining schedules?

Fantasy football winners are experts at playing the matchup game. Michael Fabiano and Jason Smith examine the quarterbacks who have the toughest remaining schedules for the second half of the season. Andrew Luck tops the list. Does that mean you should look to limit him to spot starts — or maybe even bench him altogether? Michael Fabiano takes a closer look. Tom Brady owners have suffered through some shockingly poor performances in recent weeks, and they will be less than thrilled to learn the disappointing QB finds himself ranked in the top 10 of this list. Is it time to dump him altogether? Can Colin Kaepernick’s style of play help him overcome the tough obstacles that lay ahead? Watch and […]
