Representatives from eight NFL teams — including assistant coaches from the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers — were present for Youngstown State’s pro day on March 19. The workout was held indoors on FieldTurf, and there were three prospects who could be free-agent pickups following the 2014 NFL Draft. Chris Elkins, G (6-foot-2 1/4, 298 pounds) — Elkins ran the 40-yard dash in 4.97 and 4.99 seconds. He had a 29-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-9 broad jump. Kyle Bryant, OT (6-5 3/4, 317) — Bryant ran the 40 in 5.81 and 5.88 seconds. He […]

The workout was conducted outdoors on FieldTurf and in a drizzling rain. Gerald Ford, WR (6-foot-2 3/4, 223 pounds) — Ford ran the 40-yard dash in 4.60 and 4.62 seconds. Representatives from 22 NFL teams were on hand for Wake Forest’s pro day on March 17, when 10 Wake Forest players — plus three athletes from Winston-Salem State and Catawba College — worked out outdoors on grass in below-freezing, 26-degree temperatures and precipitation that featured a wintry mix. Mike Campanaro, WR (5-foot-9, 187 pounds) — Campanaro stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, and did a positional workout. Given the less-than-ideal conditions, Campanaro was unable to put forth his best workout. Josh Harris, RB (5-9 7/8, 206) — Harris ran the 40-yard dash twice, doing so in 4.46 seconds on each attempt. A large crowd that included representatives from all 32 teams gathered for Fresno State’s pro day Thursday. No NFL head coaches were present, but each team had at least two or three reps, including the Vikings, who sent offensive coordinator Norv Turner and general manager Rick Spielman. The star of the show was undoubtedly quarterback Derek Carr, who more than likely played himself into the lower end of the first round. Carr (6-2 1/8, 215 pounds) did an exceptional job, showing off a very, very strong arm in a 72-pass workout. His incomplete passes were mostly on long throws where he aired the ball out, but he put on a show as far as being accurate and showed he’s a […]
There was one player of note at Samford’s pro day March 13, and that was running back Fabian Truss. The workouts took place in their football stadium on a sunny, 40-degree day. Truss (5-8 5/8, 187 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash twice, and his times were a bit unusual: He ran a 4.49 against the wind and 4.53 with the wind. He also posted a 31-inch vertical and a 9-6 broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.40 and the three-cone drill in 6.96. He did 16 bench presses. Truss will probably be brought to camp as a free agent.
Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn was among the representatives from 15 NFL teams at Alabama-Birmingham’s pro day March 13. Lynn was on hand to see Darrin Reaves (5-6 7/8, 209 pounds), who was not at the combine. Reaves ran the 40 twice in 4.59 seconds against the wind and 4.54 with the wind. He had a 39 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-3 broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.54 and the three-cone drill in 7.07. He also threw the bar up 20 times. He’s likely to be a camp free agent.
Bengals defensive backs coach Mark Carrier attended Kansas State’s pro day March 11, when 10 teams were present to watch 23 players work out: 20 from Kansas State and three from smaller schools in the area. Carrier was here to see Ty Zimmerman, a defensive back who was not at the combine. Zimmerman is recovering from right labrum surgery and will work out April 28 at Kansas State. Marcus Heit, LS: Heit (6-foot-3, 252 pounds) ran 4.92 and 4.94 in the 40. He posted a 31-inch vertical and a 9-8 broad jump. His arms measured 31 1/4 inches, and he had 11 reps in the bench press. He didn’t do the shuttle and three-cone drill. Everyone nowadays, it seems, is […]

Britt looked good in his workouts and also put in some work as a guard and showed he could be […]
There were 10 NFL team represented at Princeton’s pro day on March 13, when defensive tackle prospect Caraun Reid was the top draw among the three players that worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Reid (6-foot-2, 305 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.85 and 4.91 seconds. He had a 27 1/2-inch vertical jump. He stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine in the broad jump (8-foot-10), short shuttle (4.58 seconds), three-cone drill (7.59 seconds) and bench press (20 reps of 225 pounds). Reid has 33-inch arms. NFL personnel in attendance were impressed with Reid’s pro day workout, which was conducted by Cincinnati Bengals defensive line coach Jay Hayes. Last year, defensive end Mike Catapano became Princeton’s first drafted […]
Wide receiver John Brown drew representatives from seven NFL teams — including a wide receivers coach from the New Orleans Saints, and special teams coaches from the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts — to Pittsburg State’s pro day in Pittsburg, Kansas, on March 18. The workout was held outdoors and run on FieldTurf. The weather conditions featured 20-30 mile per hour wind gusts, 50-degree temperatures and sunshine. Brown (5-foot-10, 172 pounds) stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, which were impressive (he posted the second-fastest 40-yard dash time — 4.34 seconds — among wide receivers). Brown — who has 8 1/8-inch hands — did do eight lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press at Pittsburg State’s pro […]
Representatives from 25 NFL teams — including Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly, and Tennessee Titans general manager Ruston Webster and coach Ken Whisenhunt — were present for Vanderbilt’s pro day on Friday. The players worked out indoors on FieldTurf inside the school’s new multipurpose athletic facility. Jordan Matthews, WR (6-foot-3, 211 pounds) — Matthews stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, and took part in the positional workout at the pro day. Quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels threw passes to Matthews. Matthews had a few drops in the drills, which is usual for him, but otherwise had a good pro day workout. Matthews is one of the most genuinely nice and hard-working guys you will ever be around. He is […]
There were 24 NFL teams represented at West Virginia’s pro day on Friday, where 15 Mountaineers players and one player from Shepherd worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Charles Sims, RB (6-foot 1/8, 214 pounds) — Sims — who was at the NFL Scouting Combine and stood on his numbers from that event — only did position drills at the pro day. Sims played his senior season at West Virginia after finishing up his degree at the University of Houston. He can really catch the ball well, which is what teams are looking for out of a running back, and does so despite having small hands (8 1/4 inches). You usually don’t find guys who are as good a receiver as […]
There were 13 NFL team represented — including offensive line coaches from the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions — at Middle Tennessee State’s pro day on Thursday. The workout was moved to a local high school facility since MTSU’s stadium is being refurbished and was unavailable for use. The workout was held indoors and run on FieldTurf. Josh Walker, OL (6-foot-5 5/8, 320 pounds) — Walker ran the 40-yard dash in 5.22 and 5.25 seconds. He had a 27 1/2-inch vertical jump and 7-foot-9 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.77 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.95 seconds. He had 27 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. I’m told he had a good positional workout. […]

The Raiders met with Carr this morning before the pro day workout. Carr managed to execute what Turner said was “an outstanding workout” despite spending part of Wednesday in the hospital. He did need to get an IV before working out. Carr completed 66 of 72 passes, throwing to wide receivers Davante Adams and Isaiah Burse, and tight end Marcel Jensen. Burse also was used […]
