Southern Arkansas hosted a pro day that was attended by prospects from six different schools and held at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. on Monday. A total of 22 players participated at the pro day, which was attended by representatives from five NFL teams. Keaton Stigger (5-foot-11 1/4, 227 pounds), a linebacker from Henderson State, ran a 4.65 40-yard dash. Stigger, a D2Football.com second-team All-American selection and a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, figures to be a priority free-agent possibility following the 2014 NFL Draft. There were 12 NFL teams represented at Duquesne’s pro day on March 3, which was indoors on a hard-surface track where five Duquesne players and 10 others players from area small colleges worked out in shorts. Dorian Bell, OLB (5-foot-11, 228 pounds) — Bell ran the 40-yard dash in 4.73 and 4.66 seconds. Duquesne didn’t have a place for prospects to do the shuttle runs or three-cone drill, so Bell will drive to Ohio State on Friday to perform those drills.
Scouts from five NFL teams, as well as a coach from one — Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell — watched 18 players work out at Ole Miss’ pro day Monday. The workouts took place indoors and on field turf. Donte Moncrief, who participated at the NFL Scouting combine, was among the 18 players who worked out, but three others looked like they were good enough to bring to camp as free agents. Brock Vereen, FS (6-0, 199) — Vereen was at the combine, stood on his numbers from that event and only did position drills at Minnesota’s pro day. Representatives from 30 NFL teams — including new Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien, as well as Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur — gathered at Pittsburgh’s pro day on March 3, where 10 players worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Fast-rising 2014 NFL Draft prospect Aaron Donald (6-foot-1, 287 pounds) stood on his impressive numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, where he ran a 4.68-second 40-yard dash, had 35 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, registered a 32-inch vertical jump and 116-inch broad jump, and drew rave reviews for his performance. Indiana State held its pro day at The SportZone in Indianapolis on Feb. 20, and representatives from 19 teams were on hand to watch a workout for Shakir Bell. Bell (5-foot-5 5/8, 185 pounds), a running back and return specialist for the Sycamores, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 and 4.62 seconds, had a 37-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-1 broad jump, ran a 4.39-second short shuttle and did 13 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Bell figures to be a priority free agent possibility after the 2014 NFL Draft.
Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden worked out for 15 teams Monday, completing the positional drills that a hamstring issue prevented him from finishing at his pro day last month. Rex Ryan was part of a New York Jets contingent that also included the team’s defensive backs coach. Ed Donatell, the secondary coach for the San Francisco 49ers, also was in attendance, along with defensive backs coaches from the Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints. LSU running back Spencer Ware worked out on campus on Friday, April 29. Ware ran indoors and on FieldTurf, and wasn’t measured at the workout. He did weigh in at 229 pounds, though. As for his numbers, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 and 4.63 seconds. He posted a 34 inch vertical leap and a 10-foot-1/2 inch broad jump. In the short shuttle drill, he clocked in at 4.35 seconds, and completed the three-cone drill in 7.07 seconds. He opted not to lift, as he already had at LSU’s pro day. Ware had a good workout on the day, and caught the ball exceptionally well.
Azuza Pacific had its pro day on April 11. Workouts were held outdoors on FieldTurf. Fifteen teams sent representatives to watch eight participants. Offensive line coaches from the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers were there and 2001 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Jackie Slater ran the drills.
Alabama had its pro day on April 11. Workouts were held indoors on FieldTurf. Eleven players from Alabama participated.
Iowa had its pro day on March 25. Workouts were held at Iowa’s new indoor facility, which is like the Taj Mahal I’m told. Sixteen teams watched eight guys work out.
Ohio University held its pro day on March 20. Workouts were run outdoors on FieldTurf. Drills were performed on the game field. Five teams showed up to watch 10 Ohio players and a handful of other players from small schools.
Missouri Southern State had its pro day on March 5. Three players worked out for five teams. Brandon Williams, DT (6-foot-1 7/8, 332 pounds) — Williams stood on his combine numbers. He has visited the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Rams as a defensive lineman. The Cleveland Browns are checking him out as an offensive lineman. He’s had two visits to the Carolina Panthers and the Rams.
