Pryor to compete for QB2 job: Count the Seattle Seahawks as the winner of the Terrelle Pryor sweepstakes. The Seahawks gave up a seventh-round pick to acquire the quarterback from the Oakland Raiders. Already, the biggest question surrounding Pryor has apparently been answered — the team plans to keep him at the quarterback position. That means he’ll compete with Tarvaris Jackson for the No. 2 quarterback job. Last season, Pryor showed at times that he could be a productive player, even if his numbers at the end of the season were underwhelming. The former Ohio State star won’t play unless Russell Wilson goes down with an injury, but Pryor’s ability as a dual-threat quarterback could make him an interesting waiver wire option.
Bowe working with help: Entering his eighth season in the NFL, Dwayne Bowe has decided to change some things. He’s now reportedly working with a nutritionist and personal trainer for the first time in his career. With the veteran turning 30 early in the 2014 season, it certainly couldn’t hurt to find new ways to get — and stay — in shape. Whether it translates to more production on the field, and in fantasy, remains to be seen. Bowe hasn’t come close to matching his career-best 2010 season when he was the second-highest fantasy scorer at his position and in an offense built around Jamaal Charles, it doesn’t seem likely to happen this season. The news about Bowe’s training habits certainly qualifies as “upside”, but not enough to make him anything more than a third or fourth option.
Manuel at Bills workouts: Second-year quarterback EJ Manuel took part in the Bills voluntary workout Tuesday. It’s encouraging news for a player who missed parts of last season with various injuries and underwent knee surgery in January. The key for Manuel this season will be to stay healthy. When he was on the field, there was a lot to be encouraged about. As a rookie, the former Florida State standout scored 15-plus fantasy points in six of the 10 games he played. Now with Mike Williams on the roster to go along with Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods, Manuel shouldn’t lack for pass-catchers.
