Central Washington boasts developmental OL prospect

One prospect who has a chance to be a free-agent pickup for an NFL team following the 2014 NFL Draft worked out March 14 at Central Washington’s pro day.

There was a representative from one NFL team on hand to catch offensive lineman Mike Nelson and four other athletes work out outdoors on moist grass.

Nelson (6-foot-3 1/4, 289 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.47 seconds against the wind and 5.37 seconds with the wind. He had a 29-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-3 broad jump. He did the three-cone drill in 8.10 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.68 seconds. Nelson — who has 32 1/8-inch arms — did 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Nelson has good size and projects as a developmental player in the NFL.
