Khyri Thornton of Southern Miss solidifies draft stock

Representatives from 12 NFL teams were present when Southern Mississippi held its pro day on March 7. The workout was held outdoors on FieldTurf in perfect 55-degree weather.

Six players from Southern Miss worked out, plus another four former Golden Eagles players from the previous year. The most noteworthy of which was Khyri Thornton, who was the only Southern Miss player present at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Thornton, a 6-foot-2 5/8, 316-pound defensive tackle, ran the 40-yard dash in 5.09 and 5.04 seconds and then kept the rest of his numbers registered at the combine. Thornton had a very good workout, which was led by a Philadelphia Eagles coach. Thornton appeared to be in great shape; he did not lose his breath during the workout. Thornton could be selected at the bottom of the second day or at the top of the third day of the 2014 NFL Draft.
