Shorts likely done for 2013: This season never quite turned out the way Cecil Shorts would have hoped. He entered the year as a fantasy sleeper and spent most of it as the top receiver on the Jaguars depth chart after a pair of suspensions to Justin Blackmon. Instead, his season is expected to end with a trip to injured reserve with a groin injury. The second-year wideout will finish with a pedestrian 777 receiving yards and just three touchdowns, failing to match the numbers from his breakout rookie season. Expect for him to enter next season as a WR3 option. In the meantime, the recently-hot Ace Sanders moves up in the Jaguars pecking order.
Flacco says he ‘feels fine’: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco took a helmet to the knee during the second half of Monday night’s win over the Detroit Lions. But the signal-caller says he “feels fine” and isn’t expected to need an MRI on the knee. That means all systems should be go for Flacco to face the New England Patriots next week — the same Patriots that allowed 24 points to Ryan Tannehill in Week 15.
McGahee could return: Browns running back Willis McGahee says he’s feeling “pretty good” in his recovery from concussion symptoms and could return for this week’s game against the New York Jets. That could add even more confusion to a backfield that saw Edwin Baker come from seemingly nowhere to lead Cleveland’s backfield in carries over Chris Ogbonnaya. And while on paper, it would seem to be a bad matchup, the Jets have allowed 27 fantasy points per game to running backs over the past two weeks. There is production to be found here. It’s just a matter of who will get it.
