Progress? On Thursday, Aaron Rodgers — still recovring from a busted collarbone — said he would “need to take the majority of the reps” in Friday’s practice if we expect to see him on the field against the Cowboys. He reportedly looked and felt better today than he did earlier in the week. Rodgers owners simply need to pay close attention to this situation throughout the weekend, but even if he does return, he isn’t on auto-start status. It’s going to take him at least a week to get back up to speed. Use your backup plan, unless it’s a God-awful one.
Back to our guy: Jay Cutler has been named Chicago’s Week 15 starter. Josh McCown averaged over 350 passing yards during the last three games, which makes this something of a curious move from Marc Trestman. The Bears are in the middle of the race for the NFC North — is now the best time to disrupt the recent offensive success? Cutler’s rust and the possible bad weather are two reasons I’d be very cautious about throwing him back into the QB1 fire.
Late call: Wow. Both Cecil Shorts (groin) and Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) are potentially game-time decisions for the Week 15 home tilt agaisnt the Bills. Normally, this wouldn’t be headline news. But both players have experienced a late resurgence which has paid fantasy dividends to those of you who started them. The visiting Bills are a much different (i.e. worse) team away from home than in Buffalo. If either one is able to start, putting them into your lineup would be wise.
