What a week for Josh Gordon! After he wowed us in Week 12 with his 237 receiving yards and one touchdown catch, he decided to outdo himself against Jacksonville in Week 13. Gordon figured he’d help his fantasy owners bring in the holiday season in style with 261 yards and two receiving touchdowns for a whopping 38.10 fantasy points in NFL.com standard scoring leagues. Oh, and a nice little footnote is that Gordon set the Cleveland Browns franchise record for most receiving yards in a single game, breaking the record he set LAST WEEK!
In the brief history of awarding a weekly KABOOM! winner with a post in this blog, no one has won back-to-back awards. It’s rare for a fantasy player to have two monster weeks in a row, of the caliber that Gordon has delivered. It’s an even more rare occasion for a skill-position player to cross the 200-yard mark in a single game, but two weeks in a row? That’s unheard of. No, really, Gordon became the first player in NFL history to accomplish the feat. Wow.
So here we are, basking in the glory of Josh Gordon’s record-setting, magical streak of 200-yard games. Or, perhaps you’re screaming in agony as Josh Gordon knocked you out of the playoffs. Either way, we’re witnessing fantasy history people. Don’t you just love fantasy football?
Lastly, I feel the need to point out yet again that Gordon managed to do all of this with Brandon Weeden throwing him the football. Not Brady or Manning or Rodgers. Brandon Weeden. As Browns fans look toward next season, perhaps they can ease their pain by day-dreaming about the absurd numbers Gordon might put up with even a competent player under center. Until that time, they’ll just have to hope Josh “Flash” Gordon has the super powers to keep doing it by himself.
