Vick expected to start: Perhaps not wanting to answer questions all week, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles have named Michael Vick the starter for Week 8 against the New York Giants. Vick suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5 and suggested last week that it could keep him out longer than expected. However, with Nick Foles likely out with a concussion and Matt Barkley looking perfectly awful in mop-up duty, Chip Kelly’s hand might have been forced. Don’t let Monday night’s yuck-fest fool you, the Giants defense still has plenty of issues. If Vick is close to healthy (and with so many other quarterbacks on bye this week), the veteran has some Week 8 value.
Martin could be out for season: A disappointing 2013 season for Doug Martin took an even worse turn with the torn labrum he suffered in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta. While head coach Greg Schiano hasn’t ruled the running back out for the season, Martin still figures to be out for awhile. Mike James will step in to take his place and his first challenge will be a short-week’s rest before facing the Carolina Panthers, who are in the top 10 in stopping fantasy running backs.
Finley out of ICU: Packers tight end Jermichael Finley posted good news on Twitter Monday evening, letting fans know that he was out of intensive care with full feeling in his arms and legs. However, the pass-catching tight end is expected to be out indefinitely leaving Green Bay to seek other options at the position. Andrew Quarless is next up on the depth chart, but there is speculation that Brandon Bostick could also get a long look. As Jarrett Boykin taught us, anyone catching passes from Aaron Rodgers has a chance to produce fantasy numbers, but it might be a little premature to go rushing for Quarless or Bostick — especially if Jordan Reed is still on the waiver wire.
