Buccaneers release QB Josh Freeman: We’ve officially entered the Mike Glennon show. The Bucs tried to trade Josh Freeman, but no one was interested, so they let him go. He’ll probably catch on with another team eventually, but his fall from grace hasn’t been very enjoyable to watch. Glennon has no fantasy value until he figures out how to run this offense efficiently. Doug Martin is also going to struggle as the Bucs try to develop a passing game. If you somehow owned or started Freeman on your team, you have some QB shopping to do. Stat.
Spiller a game-time decision: Those of you who own C.J. Spiller are in a bit of a bind. He’s a game-time decision against the Browns tonight, but I’m telling you right now to leave him on your bench for a couple of reasons. First, there’s a pretty decent chance the game will be played in rainy conditions. Scattered thunderstorms are expected, which probably means there won’t be a great deal of passing by either team. Good news since Spiller will get a ton of carries if he plays, right? Wrong. The Browns run defense is among the best in the league, ranking fourth-best with an average of 79 yards per game. The longest rush they’ve allowed all season long was 14 yards. Even if Spiller can play, he’s not going to have a big night. Neither will Fred Jackson, Tashard Choice or whoever totes the rock.
Sudfeld released: Once a popular choice as a sleeper tight end, Zach Sudfeld was let go by the Patriots after showing nothing but disappointing production. He originally joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Nevada. Another team may give him a shot, but his fantasy value is currently locked away in a safety deposit box. The good news is if the Pats are able to throw tight ends to the scrap heap, they must feel Rob Gronkowski is extremely close to making his return.
