Social (Fantasy) Network: Picks of the litter

Guess who’s back? Back again? The Social (Fantasy) Network’s back. Tell a friend.

Okay, enough of that tortured interpolation. The good news is that the NFL has returned and with it fantasy football. The bad news is that fantasy football is back and with it comes a whole host of headaches and heartaches that fantasy owners the world over experience. Which is why the network is booting up for another season. As always, we’re not talking about the nuts and bolts of fantasy — we’ve got plenty of sleepers, starts and sits elsewhere on the site. This is where you get to share the joys and air the frustrations that make playing fantasy football the addiction that it is for so many of us.

So let’s start at the beginning — the fantasy draft. I had the pleasure to hang out at Fantasy Draft Week this year and meet plenty of fantasy enthusiasts. It was truly a great time (Shameless plug: keep an eye out later this year for news about Fantasy Draft Week 2014. You oughta be there!). And if there’s one thing we learned for sure, it’s that Adrian Peterson was the consensus No. 1 overall pick. He went in that slot in every draft we held for those three days. As for who should go second? Well … that’s where things got hairy.

Nonetheless, the early picks — those are easy. You’ve had plenty of time to think those over. It’s in the later rounds where fantasy owners truly make their money. That’s why we’re starting by asking you about your most savvy pick this year.

One caveat — after last night, we’re excluding Peyton Manning from this conversation. Besides, how smart did you have to be to draft a future Hall of Famer in a loaded offense in the first place? However, @dreab15 did have the foresight to grab one of his teammates.

We believe you, Drea. Especially because you have a fair amount of company.

But you weren’t the only prescient fantasy owners out there. Looks like @SDGIANT25 and @jasnyder123 were ahead of the curve when it came to the New York Giants running back situation.

Well aren’t you just sitting pretty? It’s a spot @SdotChillin hopes to be sitting in come Sunday evening.

For plenty of you, it seemed like you just took advantage of friends who just fell asleep at the switch. In which case, we salute you.

I know we’ve been preaching that you can wait on quarterbacks … but that’s getting ridiculous. Rodgers and Brady on the same roster?!? That’s getting out of control. Are there any open spots in your league for next season?

Anywho … the rosters are set and now it’s time to enjoy (or lament) the fruits of our labors. If you had any smart picks that I didn’t get to, feel free to hit the comment section. In the meantime … Happy Week 1 everybody!
