RGIII tweets he’s been cleared: The next step in The Revival of RGIII came Thursday when Robert Griffin III tweeted that he had been cleared to play by Dr. James Andrews. That news was echoed by head coach Mike Shanahan, which begged the obvious question — would Griffin start Week 1? So far, Washington’s head coach has remained coy on that one. That has led to reports that the concern isn’t so much about how sound RGIII’s knee is but rather how the team plans to use him. It’s a concern that could be said about nearly every player in the league. Right now, it’s leading to potential fantasy headaches about what to do with Washington’s star QB. #Shanahanigans rise again!
Raiders yet to name a starting QB: If you needed any further confirmation that the Oakland Raiders’ offense is a complete and utter mess, witness the Silver and Black quarterback situation. Terrelle Pryor appeared to be the leading candidate until his milquetoast performance against the Seattle Seahawks. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s fallen behind Matt Flynn in the race to start the regular season opener. Flynn, who didn’t play because of a sore arm, could once again find himself as an understudy after losing out to Russell Wilson last season. From a fantasy standpoint, the lack of weapons in the Raiders’ passing game would make Pryor a better fantasy option. He’s not nearly as accurate a passer as Flynn, but his ability to run the ball gives him hope of moving the offense in an otherwise moribund attack. Either way, you shouldn’t consider a Raiders passer until the draft is about at its death.
Manuel now throwing: In his quest to be ready to go for the regular season opener, EJ Manuel began throwing on the field before Thursday’s preseason finale. Bills head coach Doug Marrone says he’d like to see Manuel practice for a few days before deciding if the rookie will start Week 1 against the Patriots. If not, the team will stay with its plan to play undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel. Either way, if you planned on using a late-round flier on Manuel, you can stick with that plan. You weren’t starting him Week 1 anyway. At least we hope not.
