Jones-Drew working out on his own: The last two offseasons haven’t been kind to Maurice Jones-Drew. Last year, he was holding out after a fairly ugly contract dispute and returned only to struggle with performance and injuries. This year, the Jaguars running back has been trying to recover from foot surgery while dealing with recent off-field troubles. Now come reports that MJD is working out on his own in Miami and hasn’t quite gotten back into shape. That’s not a total surprise considering his injury has prevented him from running. We’ll learn a little more when Jones-Drew arrives in Jacksonville for next week’s mandatory mini-camp. His situation promises to be one of the more intriguing fantasy stories as the fall approaches.
Fitzgerald learning new offense: Speaking of intriguing stories, the fantasy resurrection of Larry Fitzgerald is on the mind of plenty of owners this summer. That resurrection is looking more promising with news that the Arizona Cardinals new coaching staff wants Fitzgerald to line up in multiple positions. First, a new quarterback and now a new offense that promises to find new ways to get its best playmaker the football — it adds up to two more reasons to believe Fitz is on his way back to being a top 10 fantasy wideout in 2013.
Hernandez back in action … sort of: While the New England Patriots wait to learn more on the status of Rob Gronkowski, it had to be a welcome sight to have Aaron Hernandez back at practice Tuesday. The dynamic tight end has yet to be cleared for contact, but he was able to run routes and stayed for extra work with Tom Brady. Considering Brady is suffering from a lack of familiar pass-catchers, Hernandez is in a good spot to be New England’s top option in the passing game when the season starts.
