Florida State OT Menelik Watson impresses at pro day

There were 32 teams represented at Florida State Pro Day on March 19. They ran outdoors and the field was damp due to prior rain. It was about 70 degrees.

Tank Carradine DL (6-4 3/8, 275 pounds) — He recorded 32 bench presses, but will do another workout April 4 at Woodward High School in Cincinnati.

Everett Dawkins DL (6-2 ¼, 291 pounds) — He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.00 and 5.02 seconds. He kept the rest of the combine results. Dawkins did well in positional workouts.

Dustin Hopkins K (6-2 ¼, 192 pounds) — He has an extremely strong leg and ended his workout by kicking a 50-yard field goal.

Brandon Jenkins DE (6-3, 247 pounds) — He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.07 and 5.09 seconds but but kept his vertical and broad jump from the combine. He ran the short shuttle drill in 4.48 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.40 seconds. Jenkins recorded 19 strength lifts. He is a player who was pretty good two years ago but has not been the same since.

EJ Manuel QB (6-4 ½ 238 pounds) — He was put through a scripted workout. It was designed to allow people to see what he can do on roll-outs and boot-leg passes. He performed very well.

Nick Moody OLB (6-1 3/8 236 pounds) — He ran one time, a 4.68 in the 40-yard dash. He pulled his quad muscle on the second 40 and did not finish. He recorded a 33-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-5 broad jump. He will be a very good special teams player.

Lonnie Pryor RB (5-11 ¾, 224 pounds) – He kept everything he performed at the combine. He had a good workout.

Greg Reid CB (5-8 ½, 189 pounds) — He ran a the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds. Reid, however, pulled a hamstring on his second run. He recorded a 30-inch vertical jump but didn’t do any positional work.

Xavier Rhodes CB (6-1 ½, 207 pounds) — He kept his times from the combine with one exception. He ran a 4.65 in the short shuttle drill and a 7.29 in the three-cone drill. He had an excellent workout.

Rodney Smith WR (6-5 1/8, 223 pounds) — He kept everything he performed at the combine. He had a workout with a note that he needs a development year as a wide receiver.

Christopher Thompson RB (5-7 ½, 188 pounds) – He only took part in the vertical jump, 35 inches. When he’s healthy he reminds people of Darren Sproles of the New Orleans Saints.

Menelik Watson OL (6-5 ¼, 314 pounds) — He recorded a 27.5-inch vertical jump and 19 strength lifts. Watson played right tackle at Florida State but the feeling is he can play left tackle. He reminds people of boxer Lennox Lewis because of his accent and gold tooth. This is a kid who has only player one year of football. He’s from Manchester, England, and very good offensive lineman.

Bjoern Werner DE (6-3 ¾, 261 pounds) — He kept everything he did at the combine. He looked outstanding in the positional drills. Werner is a very, very good athlete.

Anthony McCloud NT (6-2, 305 pounds) He ran a the 40-yard dash in 5.21 and 5.24 seconds. McCloud recorded a 28.5-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot-5 broad jump and ran the short shuttle drill in 4.70 seconds. He also finished the three-cone drill in 8.19 seconds. He recorded 24 bench presses. McCloud has very big hands at 11 inches.
