SHSU’s Daxton Swanson forced to have separate workout

A total of 10 players worked out at Sam Houston State’s pro day on March 19, and NFL Scouting Combine invitee Daxton Swanson held off his workout due to a left hamstring injury until Thursday.

Swanson (5-foot-11 1/2, 180 pounds), a cornerback, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 and 4.48 seconds. He had a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.34 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.98 seconds. Swanson stood on his broad jump effort from the combine. Swanson will be selected in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Two notable athletes who worked out on March 19 at the school were …

Trey Diller, WR (6-1 1/8, 197) — Diller ran the 40 in 4.49 and 4.47 seconds. He had a 37 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-foot-9 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.43 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.31 seconds. He had 11 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Diller — who had four touchdown receptions in 2012 for a Bearkats team that advanced to the FCS championship game — had a good workout and caught the ball well.

Darius Taylor, LB (5-11 3/8, 245) — Taylor ran the 40 in 4.79 and 4.82 seconds. He had a 33-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-11 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.36 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.19 seconds. He performed 27 lifts on the bench. Taylor worked out as a fullback at SHSU’s pro day and looked good.

Sam Houston State hasn’t had a player drafted since 2009, when quarterback Rhett Bomar was selected by the New York Giants in the fifth round.
