Northern Illinois’ Martel Moore could slide into draft

Representatives from seven NFL teams gathered at the pro day held at Northern Illinois on March 8, where 11 NIU players (plus three from Eastern Illinois and one from Western Illinois) participated in a workout that was held indoors on FieldTurf.

Two of the Huskies’ wide receivers were the main attraction, with Arizona Cardinals wide receivers coach Darryl Drake putting NIU’s duo through the workout.

Perez Ashford, WR (5-foot-10, 188 pounds) — Ashford ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 and 4.58 seconds, had a 4.29-second time in the short shuttle and a 7.11-second three-cone drill. He had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-3 broad jump. He performed 16 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Martel Moore, WR (6-0, 188) — Moore ran the 40 in 4.56 and 4.57 seconds. He had a 4.51-second short shuttle and a 7.04-second three-cone drill. Moore’s vertical jump was 35 inches and he had a 10-foot-6 broad jump. He also performed 10 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Moore — who had 1,083 yards and 13 touchdowns receiving for the MAC champions and Orange Bowl participants — has a chance to be drafted, but will most likely be a rookie free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft.

Northern Illinois didn’t have any players invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.
