Ray Ray Armstrong attempts return to game at Miami’s pro day

Representatives from 22 NFL teams gathered at the pro day held March 7 at Miami (Fla.), where 12 players participated in a workout that was held outdoors on grass.

Defensive backs coaches from the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts were in attendance, as was Minnesota Vikings assistant general manager George Paton.

Mike James, RB (5-foot-10 3/4, 217 pounds) — James stuck with his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine in all but two events. At Miami’s pro day, James ran the short shuttle in 4.34 second and did the three-cone drill in 6.93 seconds.

Brandon McGee, CB (5-11, 193) — McGee stuck with his numbers from the combine, with the exception of the jumps (34-inch vertical and 9-foot-11 broad jump at pro day).

Ray Ray Armstrong, SS (6-3, 216) — Armstrong ran the 40-yard dash in 4.72 and 4.69 seconds, had a 4.24-second short shuttle and 7.20-second three-cone drill. He had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-8 broad jump. He also had 18 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Armstrong was suspended for the 2012 season by the football program after being involved in a compliance issue with a Miami booster. Armstrong is attempting to return to football after a year away from the game and could be mid-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, possibly as high as the fourth round.

James and McGee were the only Hurricanes invited to the combine.
