NFL fantasy football: Alex Smith drawing interest

Smith’s days in SF numbered: It’s not a surprise, but Alex Smith is spending his final week as a San Francisco 49er. While the team will likely try to trade the former No. 1 overall pick, they aren’t averse to cutting him early in order to give him more time to find a new home. And already there are several teams reportedly interested in acquiring the QB’s services, notably the Bills, Cardinals, Eagles and Chiefs. All four teams would present interesting advantages and disadvantages for the veteran signal-caller. His ultimate fantasy draft value will no doubt be impacted by where he lands.
Dolphins’ Miller to start next season?: With it looking less likely that Reggie Bush returns to the Miami Dolphins next season, the team reportedly is becoming more comfortable with Lamar Miller as its primary running back in 2013. The rookie carried the ball just 51 times for 250 yards, but became a bigger part of the offense as the season progressed. That leaves Daniel Thomas as the odd man out in the Dolphins backfield and seemingly vying for a reserve role with the club.
Vikings interested in Driver: Perhaps seeking another option to Percy Harvin, the Minnesota Vikings are reportedly interested in Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver. The veteran was said to be leaning toward retirement, but told a reporter he believes he can still be a “No. 1 or No. 2 guy and be solid for another three years”. That might be a bit optimistic, but the Vikings are in need of someone to help bolster their passing attack and the 38-year old would add experience. However, Driver hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2009 and caught just eight passes for 77 yards in 2012. That doesn’t sound like someone in line for a top-two spot in a receiving corps.
