Forte returns to practice: As he continues to rehab his nagging ankle injury, Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte returned to practice in a limited fashion Thursday. The runner has spent the week in a walking boot after aggravating the injury in Week 16. With Chicago needing a win to make the postseason, it’s hard to see him sitting out. However, that might not be enough for fantasy owners seeking a championship this week. The Bears’ opponent — the Detroit Lions — have been a little better than average against fantasy backs on their home field. Plus Armando Allen and Kahlil Bell are waiting in the wings if Forte’s ankle betrays him at any point. Considering the dearth of true No. 1 backs out there, it’s hard to advocate sitting Forte, but he is a major risk this week.
Cobb could miss Week 17: After suffering an ankle injury in Green Bay’s Week 16 win, wide receiver Randall Cobb hasn’t seen much time on the practice field. He was limited on Wednesday and sat out the proceedings altogether on Thursday. In a breakout season, Cobb has been the Packers top receiver but might have to give way in the regular season finale to Greg Jennings, James Jones and possibly Jordy Nelson. That would be a tough blow to fantasy owners who have made hay with Cobb in their lineup all season.
Richardson misses practice: It’s looking less and less likely that Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson will play in Sunday’s season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The rookie injured his ankle in Week 16 and has yet to practice this week, potentially putting Montario Hardesty in the spotlight. Hardesty’s timing could be better, however. The Steelers are allowing an NFL-best 9.83 fantasy points to running backs at Heinz Field. If you’re in need of running back help this week, Cleveland isn’t the place to look.
