Madden curse watch week 10: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings

Historically, players who are featured on the cover of the “Madden NFL” franchise experience significant drops in their offensive production. NFL.com is tracking the performance of Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions over the course of the 2012 season because we believe Johnson will debunk the Madden curse. Calvin Johnson on battling injury this season: “I’m feeling all right.” That’s all we needed to hear, Megatron. On to the game! ————————————————————————————————————————————– FIRST QUARTER ————————————————————————————————————————————– The Minnesota Vikings start off strong against a sleepy Lions defense. And offense. First Vikings possession of the game. Christian Ponder connects with rookie wide receiver Jarius Wright for a touchdown. On the following Lions possession, Matt Stafford is intercepted by Chad Greenway. Soon after the turnover, the Vikings […]

Week 10 fantasy feedback

» All things considered, Colin Kaepernick acquitted himself well against a very aggressive Rams defense. If Alex Smith can’t go next week, Kaepernick will get the start. The problem is that the Niners host the Chicago Bears next week. You don’t want any part of that matchup. » Let’s not start the Nick Foles over Michael Vick conversations quite yet. Foles took over after Vick left with a concussion, but Philadelphia’s offensive line didn’t do any better protecting the rookie than it did the veteran. After the game, coach Andy Reid told reporters that as long as Vick is healthy for next week, he will be the starter. If you’d like to hedge your bets, pick up Foles, but don’t automatically expect to […]

Colts ride third-down success vs. Jaguars

The Indianapolis Colts are looking to make a playoff push as they begin the second half of the season in Jacksonville on “Thursday Night Football.” Andrew Luck will make his primetime debut, four days after his rookie-record 433 yards passing in a comeback win over the Miami Dolphins. While the Colts’ passing proficiency has been remarkable, when you go inside the numbers the true key to their 5-3 start has been their ability to convert on third down. The Colts are a league-best 42.1 percent converting on third downs of six yards or more. Their talented group of receivers, led by veteran Reggie Wayne, has been able to shred zone coverages and Luck has made opposing defenses pay with his […]
