Social (Fantasy) Network: Either/Or
NFL.com Staff | Tags: Social (Fantasy) Network,
Since most of us aren’t independently wealthy, most of us have experienced that end-of-the-month dilemma that forces us to choose between frivolity and responsibility. Do I spend my last few bucks before payday on groceries or a tank of gas? Or better yet, should I blow it on the discount DVD bin? That Billy Madison/Happy Gilmore/Don’t Mess With The Zohan three-pack is mighty tempting.
Likewise, if you’ve played fantasy football for any length of time, you’ve run into the dilemma of having your fantasy team succeed at the expense of your actual NFL team — and vice versa. So this week I come to you, faithful fantasy follower, with a simple Social (Fantasy) Network query: What do you need more this week — a win from your NFL team or your fantasy team?
Of course, there was one answer I expected immediately. And the Twitterverse did not disappoint.
@NFLfantasy that answer should always be a win for your nfl team if you are a true fan. #SocialFF

Few things grind my gears like the inanity of the “what makes a real fan” argument. It’s kinda like people who claim they love rain, when in fact what they really love is hot chocolate and blankets. But that’s another rant for another time and place. Sometimes, a “real fan” knows when it’s time to throw in the towel. Which could mean Kansas City has the realest fans in the league.
@NFLfantasy fantasy because I've given up on my Chiefs #SocialFF

@NFLfantasy Well since my team sucks, The Chiefs, I am going to go with my fantasy team. #SocialFF

Although cheering for fantasy success isn’t just the domain of the downtrodden. Fans of NFL teams on the plus-side of the won-loss ledger have their eyes on fantasy scoreboard this weekend as well.
@NFLfantasy a niners fan, so definitely a fantasy team win. (2-5 yuck) #SocialFF

Of course, not everyone is quite so fantasy focused. Apparently some people have enough of a cushion in their leagues that catching the occasional “L” won’t bother them quite so much.
@NFLfantasy #SocialFF I'm 7-0, my saints need the win more than me .. #struggle

There are plenty of you out there that are still quite conflicted. But sometimes your real team has to sacrifice in order to achieve peace in your personal life.
@NFLfantasy tough question, I need my Gmen to beat the Cowgirls but I need to beat the cocky league leader in points to shuthimup #socialff

@NFLfantasy Well, the Vikes lost last night and I benched Doug Martin. At this point, I am desperate for a win vs my hubby. #SocialFF

While that might give Roxie a sense of tranquility, there could be some weeping and gnashing of teeth around her household if things go the way she’d like. If only her choice was as easy as Jesse’s.
@NFLfantasy L.A has not team! Fantasy W is a must! #SocialFF

I’ll give this week’s last word to Joshua…who’s just being plain greedy.
@NFLfantasy don't need either but i want both #SocialFF

He also wants to know if you’re going to finish those fries. This is why we can’t have nice things.
Are you conflicted? Work out your angst (respectfully) on the comment boards. And as always, keep an eye out for next week’s #SocialFF question. Happy Week 8 everybody!
