NFL fantasy football: Aaron Rodgers limited at practice

Rodgers battling calf injury: One week after lighting up the Houston Texans for six touchdown passes, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers finds himself on the injury list because of a calf injury. Head coach Mike McCarthy downplayed the situation, although it did give the team a chance to give Graham Harrell some additional reps in practice. Bad calf or not, expect this week’s opponent — the St. Louis Rams — to prevent a repeat of last week’s huge game. But it’s not as though fantasy owners were going to sit Rodgers this week, anyway.

Cassel, Brady splitting reps: Even though Matt Cassel has been cleared to play after suffering a concussion in Week 5, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback finds himself splitting practice reps with backup Brady Quinn. According to head coach Romeo Crennel, the move is a precaution as Cassel works his way back fully. However, with Cassel struggling mightily this season, the move could also be a precursor to a change under center for the Chiefs. The team has a bye this week before hosting the Oakland Raiders in Week 8. More will undoubtedly be written about any potential QB controversy before then.

Garçon remains cautious: Washington Redskins wideout Pierre Garcon is taking things slow with his injured right foot. After a big first half in the season opener saw him catch four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown, Garçon has played in just two more games where he has combined to catch four passes for 44 yards. With the Redskins facing a New York Giants secondary that has been rather forgiving to opposing fantasy receivers, it would be nice to see Garçon back on the field, but if he can’t go, it shouldn’t have an impact on Robert Griffin III or the rest of the Redskins offense, who have done just fine without the receivers.
