NFL fantasy football feedback: Week 1

» Ben Roethlisberger is sharing the wealth among his receivers. Eight different players have caught a pass so far tonight. Heath Miller is the leader with four receptions while Antonio Brown is tops with 55 receiving yards.

» In the preseason, everyone focused their attention on Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson. But in Week 1, it was James Jones (81 yards, TD) who led the team in receiving yards and Randall Cobb (nine receptions) who led in catches. It won’t be like this every week, but if those two players continue to see significant targets, the Packers’ WR corps could start to mimic the Saints.

» Despite a generally disappointing day, Larry Fitzgerald still finished the afternoon as the Cardinals’ leading fantasy scorer with 63 receiving yards. Most of them came late in the game with Kevin Kolb in at quarterback for the injured John Skelton. Last season, Fitz had better days with Skelton than he did with Kolb, so we have no idea what to make of this. Sorta like Arizona’s QB situation.

» Marshawn Lynch posted a respectable 85 rushing yards, although he didn’t get into the end zone. Still, it’s not bad for a guy who was in danger of not playing at all earlier in the week. Seems like Lynch plays better when he’s listed as questionable on the injury report. Perhaps this is something Pete Carroll should look into.

» Rookie does his part, but Seattle receivers can’t get it done when they needed it. Wilson doesn’t help fantasy owners who started him much though, only 8.12 fantasy points for the day.

» Can Russell Wilson pull out some last-second heroics?

» James Jones does the Lambeau leap after catching Aaron Rodgers‘ second TD pass.

» Kevin Kolb connects with Andre Roberts for a TD. Another connection which helped 0 fantasy owners.

» Carolina Panthers finish with 10 total rushing yards for the day. Cam Newton winds up with just 12.52 fantasy points.

» Frank Gore barrels in for a 20+ yard touchdown score.

» Uh-oh, Cardinals QB John Skelton down on the field and in visible pain. Looks like Kevin Kolb time.

» For owners who have Bills WR David Nelson on their bench for depth purposes, he will possibly be out the remainder of the season with what is being reported as an ACL tear.

» And DeAngelo Williams has aided fantasy owners by racking up -1 yards rushing so far. Not having Jonathan Stewart is proving big.

» Cam Newton adds another interception to his rough start. An errant pass caught by Bucs CB Ahmad Black.

» Alex Smith tosses his second touchdown pass to TE Vernon Davis…who gets stuffed by the goal post when trying to dunk it.

» Both shoulders are fine. Sidney Rice and Russell Wilson combine for each of their first scores of the season.

» Cam Newton’s day just got worse after an interception off a tipped pass which fell into Ronde Barber’s arms.

» The Carolina Panthers finally get on the board after a TD pass from Cam Newton to Brandon LaFell.

» 49ers kicker David Akers just booted a 63 yard field goal, tying the NFL record.

» As Marcas Grant pointed out, there’s nothing worse for fantasy owners who started Seattle QB Russell Wilson than seeing him heave up a Hail Mary before the end of the half…only to have it intercepted. But you shouldn’t have been starting him in the first place.

» Packers TE Jermichael Finley is the first one to make the Lambeau leap, catching a TD in the back of the end-zone from Aaron Rodgers.

» And LaRod Stephens-Howling barrels in for a TD, helping a total of 0 fantasy owners.

» If you own Matt Forte, hopefully you also picked up some antacids. Forte had a pretty good day 120 total yards (80 rushing) and a touchdown. But watching Michael Bush vulture two touchdowns had to be hard on the nerves. That’s probably going to be Forte’s reality all season long.

» Randy Moss has made his return to prominence with a TD catch from Alex Smith. As expected, he will be valuable in the red-zone this season.

» It was an inauspicious debut for Trent Richardson. The rookie finished with just 39 yards on 19 carries. While the knee surgeries are a concern, the bigger worry might be that he plays for the Cleveland Browns. There’s not much reason for optimism with that offense.

» Once again, picking the Saints WR who will explode is like throwing darts. This week it was Lance Moore who went off, finishing with six catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston had decent days with 85 and 71 yards, respectively. But Moore was Drew Brees’ favorite target on this day. Next week will likely be someone else’s turn.

» Tim Tebow might be wishing he went to Jacksonville. Everyone got in on the action except for Tebow, who wound up with a monstrous 1.10 fantasy points on the day.

» Robert Griffin III is as advertised — 320 passing yards, two touchdown passes and 42 yards on the ground. Of the rookie QBs in the league, he was the most ready to succeed right away. But still … wow.

» The day belonged to the hybrid WR/RB — Dexter McCluster grabbed six catches for 82 yards; C.J. Spiller rushed for 169 yards and added another 25 receiving yards and Percy Harvin posted 104 yards of total offense (84 receiving). These guys are hard to game plan for and as long as their offenses figure out how exactly to use them, their fantasy values will only continue to rise.

» The good news for Michael Vick was his 317 passing yards, two passing TDs and 36 yards rushing. The bad news was his four picks (including a pick six) and a number of wicked hits absorbed. But that’s what life is like for fantasy owners with Mike Vick. It’s all about managing risk.

» The Lions running game won’t dazzle anyone, but Kevin Smith had a pretty nice day with 91 yards of total offense and a touchdown. He’ll be the main man in the backfield for the foreseeable future. If he can keep producing like that, he’ll turn out to be a nice matchup-based flex option.

» Michael Turner continues to be a fantasy conundrum. He finished the day with 11 carries (32 yards) while Jacquizz Rodgers had seven (22 yards). With Matt Ryan and the passing game hitting on all cylinders, it’s not looking good for Turner to be the same type fantasy back he used to be.

» Alfred Morris could be the end of Shanahanagans (well at least for another week). Just scored his second TD to go with 97 yards rushing.

» Drew Brees intercepted. RG3 gets another chance to pad his stats. He currently is sitting pretty with 24.12 fantasy points. No Luck needed.

» Reggie Bush is reminding us that he’s about the only Dolphin with any fantasy value. Bush finished the day with 14 rushes for 69 yards and six catches for 46 yards. Finding any other consistent producers will be like finding movies on VHS.

» Mike Vick could still win this game, even with four interceptions on the day.

» This isn’t the 2011 version of Blaine Gabbert. He has 260 yards passing with two TDs and no picks heading into OT.

» Andy Luck finally throws his first TD pass to Donnie Avery.

» What a day for Matt Ryan. Currently at 299 yards passing with two scores and 25 yards rushing with a score. Mike Vick is envious right now.

» Lions RB Kevin Smith scores, brings the game to a tie pending a field goal.

» End of Shanahanagans? Alfred Morris has 15 carries compared to four total for Evan Royster and Roy Helu.

» Sam Bradford makes a beautiful touch pass connection to Brandon Gibson for a TD.

» Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin getting an IV on the sideline. No word on his return.

» Matt Hasselbeck in for Jake Locker at the moment while Locker being worked on by trainers adding protective equipment to his left shoulder.

» Andy Luck throws a red-zone interception, trying to force it in to Reggie Wayne.

» Titans WR Nate Washington and Jake Locker both down on the field on the same play. Neither getting up at the moment.

» Ryan Fitzpatrick salvages his day with a five yard TD to TE Scott Chandler.

» Bills RB C.J. Spiller just went over the century mark for the day.

» Rookies Brandon Weeden and Ryan Tannehill having very rough days so far. Weeden just tossed his third INT.

» Pats found the answer at RB? Stevan Ridley adds a TD to his 100+ yard day.

» Need some WR help? Redskins WR Aldrick Robinson coming out of obscurity with 39 yards and a score.

» Bears RB Matt Forte scores form five yards out. Bears and Jets offenses are rolling right now.

» Jets’ Stephen Hill adds another touchdown to his rookie resume. Jets pounding Buffalo 40-7.

» Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas is out for the game with a head injury. It’s all on Reggie Bush considering Lamar Miller is out also.

» Matt Ryan gets everyone in on the fun, connects with Tony Gonzalez for a score.

» Miami Dolphins special teams score on a 72 yard punt return.

» Alfred Morris the first Redskins RB to score.

» Jets defense makes a pick-six on Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

» Matt Ryan not only is tossing TDs left and right, he decided to run one in to boot.

» Adrian Peterson continues his “freakish” return from injury with his second TD of the day.

» Bills RB Fred Jackson in questionable to return to the game with a leg injury.

» Titans RB Chris Johnson needs to come out after halftime re-energized. Only nine yards on nine carries on the day.

» Mike Vick lasers a TD pass to Jeremy Maclin with 17 seconds left.

» Michael Bush vultures a short-yardage TD. Could be a constant theme for Matt Forte owners this season.

» Matt Schaub connects with Andre Johnson for a touchdown as time winds down in the first half.

» Saints defense scores on a blocked punt returned for a TD.

» Earl Bennett catches a TD pass from Jay Cutler.

» Trent Richardson having a slow start to his rookie campaign so far. Just 17 yards on nine carries.

» Arian Foster scores his second TD of the day with 49 seconds left in the first half.

» Adrian Peterson scores from three yards out.

» Arian Foster looks just fine. Scores on a 14 yard run.

» Gronk TD does stand!

» Rob Gronkowski awaiting review of his TD catch against the Titans. Replay looks like it will stand.

» Think Jay Cutler isn’t happy to have Brandon Marshall back? The two have connected for 72 yards and a touchdown.

» Not the start he was hoping for, Lions QB Matt Stafford has tossed 3 interceptions today.

» Pierre Garcon is listed as questionable to return after heading to the locker room with a foot injury.

» Matt Cassel takes it himself and runs one in for a score.

» Colts QB Andy Luck off to a rough start, just 4- of -9 passing for 43 yards and an interception.

» Bills RB C.J. Spiller takes it to the house on a 56 yard run while Fred Jackson sits on the sideline.

» Julio Jones just caught his second TD of the day.

» Bills RB Fred Jackson takes a nasty looking hit to the left knee. Being looked at on the sidelines.

» RG3 connects with Aldrick Robinson for his second TD pass of the day. Griffin has thrown two TDs and rushed for 24 yards so far in the first half.

» Though it doesn’t figure to help many fantasy owners, Jeremy Kerley has scored his second TD of the day on a punt return. Mark Sanchez is also in beast mode to start the year.

» Chiefs TE Kevin Boss catches the Chiefs first TD of the season.

» Mark Sanchez is getting everyone in the mix, connecting with rookie Stephen Hill for a score.

» On just four catches, Pierre Garcon already has 109 yards receiving and a touchdown.

» Quarterback Tom Brady connect with a tight end for his first score of the day, but it was Aaron Hernandez and not Rob Gronkowski who was the beneficiary.

» Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones wasted no time making his presence known, scoring a touchdown on their first drive of the day.

» Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has started his season out going 5-of-5 passing. His main target thus far is Pierre Garcon.

» New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham picked up where he left off, scoring the Saints first touchdown on the season.

» New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has looked good, connecting with Jeremy Kerley for a score.
