My story: The Cowboys relish the chance to make a first impression… against the best

Cowboys owner Jerry JonesĀ got a call from the league informing him of his Week 1 opponent. Turned out, it would be a few days before the opening Sunday.
The Cowboys are set to play the Giants on Wednesday to kick-start the 2012 season, and Jones is pumped. Not only is his team on national TV (which he loves), but they get to begin the process of righting last year’s wrong against the team that booted them from contention. “Starting at that level of consequence is quite a challenge,” Jones said.
First impressions can go a long way, and the Cowboys are hoping to create a positive one during a season in which they believe they field a much different and stronger team. Players are amped… and not just because each time they’ve won their opener in the last 10 years, they’ve gone on to a winning season.
“I found out we were playing, I was excited,” QB Tony Romo said. “Just to be able to get back to the exact same spot we finished in… As a competitor, as an athlete, you love that.”
