Fantasy football values and rankings are an excellent tool when making roster decisions. But don’t allow them to make your decision making too rigid, writes Marcas Grant.

Will Dallas Cowboys receiver Kevin Ogletree become this year’s Laurent Robinson in fantasy football?

Hello from Valley Ranch, where the Dallas Cowboys have finished up practice for the day. They play the Miami Dolphins in their final preseason game on Wednesday, but that’s really for the lower-rung guys. For the good guys, it’s all about the New York Giants. That’s the season opener, and the nation will be watching. The biggest points of discussion today are the Dez Bryant rules, which ESPN Dallas discussed on Saturday night, and which we can confirm. Want some reaction to that and other highlights? – Cowboys coach Jason Garrett was ready for the question about it, and his company line was a strong one. Yes, Dallas wants to offer Bryant support, surrounding him with a security force, banning […]

Late Saturday night, we gave you some quick-hitting thoughts from the Cowboys third preseason game, with some reaction and reflections. But we kinda ignored the St. Louis Rams. So… want some Rams tidbits? – I’ve been fairly positive this offseason on Sam Bradford, who is primed for a bounce-back year. Under new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, I’m thinking Bradford gets back to three-steps-and-out just like the West Coast QB he used to be. Saturday night, however, was not that kind of night. He was 6 of 17 for 64 yards, and he never looked comfortable. The offense didn’t move. “Of course, we want to be more productive,” coach Jeff Fisher said. “He missed a couple, and then he got hit too much.” That about sums it up. […]

Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub both went on record earlier this month regarding the Houston Texans’ expections, telling NFL.com and NFL Network’s Albert Breer it was Super Bowl or bust.
On Monday’s edition of “NFL AM” Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown agreed with that assessment.
“I think we made it to the playoffs last year, we got that off our backs, got our first playoff victory and of course you want to take it to next level,” he said.

There wasn’t outrageous debate in the upper Northwest over who should be the Seattle Seahawks’ starting quarterback in 2012.
“Russell Wilson will start against the Raiders (in the preseason finale) and will start the first week of the regular season,” Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said during a conference call on Sunday. “He is so prepared, he does not seem like a first-year quarterback.”
Wilson was so prolific in every facet of his first three preseason games he did not give the third-year head coach much of a choice.

As we do every week, let’s take a swing around the NFL, looking at a bunch of random things … So, what’s been up? 1. Is there a better place to start than the New York Jets? Oh, and for a spoiler alert, we’re not talking about Tim Tebow right off the bat. So… you might not be interested. But anyway, we’ll talk about the Jets issues at right tackle. What a mess. Wayne Hunter, who the coaches praised all offseason, was benched after two horrific performances in preseason games. Duh. Even he said, “I was waiting for it.” I imagine this makes for a bit of an awkward time for OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo, who said this spring that until they […]

Things have wrapped up here at Cowboys Stadium, as the Cowboys took a 20-19 win over the Rams in the third preseason game for both teams. Special thanks to St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher for going for a PAT after his team had pulled within two in the final minutes. Major props there. We’ll hit this from a Rams perspective tomorrow … but want some Cowboys notes? – First, some not good news. Nose tackle Jay Ratliff left the locker room on crutches, and owner Jerry Jones said he had suffered an ankle sprain. Jones wouldn’t speculate on the severity, with more tests scheduled tomorrow, but he could miss some time. Not good. Of course, Ratliff sat out the first […]

Maurice Jones-Drew stuck up for running backs, saying that they are still a dominant fantasy commodity. But, as Marcas Grant writes, things aren’t what they used to be with fantasy RB values.

If Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick cuts back on turnovers, he could be one of the better fantasy football values in 2012.

Earlier in the week, Bills GM Buddy Nix gave an interview to the Toronto Sun and opined on several topics. But the thing that caught everyone’s eye was his bold proclamation. Or, really, his true opinion of his team’s standing. Nix was asked about the high expectations in Buffalo — which we’ve mentioned here before – and he didn’t blink. The Bills have put themselves in position to win, and he didn’t mind saying so. “I like high expectations,” Nix told the Toronto Sun. “I’ve never been many places where if you didn’t have ‘em, that good things happen. So I think they oughta expect a lot of us. We expect a lot out of ourselves. New England, the AFC — they don’t scare me. […]

With a sputtering Cardinals offense will Larry Fitzgerald be able to put up his usual number?
